ITC Midwest engages with Denmark Fire Department on substation safety As part of ITC Midwest’s ongoing commitment to safety and community collaboration, representatives from the company recently partnered with the Denmark Fire Department to support fire safety education in preparation for a new substation project near Denmark, Iowa. The engagement was prompted by Denmark Fire Chief Todd Ross, who proactively reached out to ensure his team was well-prepared for potential emergency scenarios involving high-voltage infrastructure. In response, ITC Midwest organized a special event that included guided tours of the new Deeds substation and an in-depth discussion on fire safety protocols. Wednesday, October 29, 2025 Thursday, October 30, 2025 ITC Midwest, Great River Energy and Xcel Energy partner on Upper Midwest's first 765kV line Project will bolster regional reliability and minimize environmental impact Several energy providers launched their plan to provide long-term electric reliability for customers by developing the Upper Midwest’s first 765 kilovolt (kV) transmission project, which will meet the significant growth in electricity use projected in the coming decades and improve access to new energy sources needed to serve communities throughout the region. In February, ITC Midwest, Great River Energy and Xcel Energy filed Notice of Intent to Construct, Own and Maintain the new 765 kV electric transmission line with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. This notice kicks off the permitting, public outreach and environmental review process overseen by the Commission and is the first step in project development. The line will connect to the existing transmission grid in eastern South Dakota and travel approximately 410 miles across southern Minnesota to Wisconsin, also connecting into the regional grid in Wisconsin and Iowa.
