Getting underway to deliver a new Dromana Pier

With funding committed in the 2023-24 State Budget, Parks Victoria is preparing to rebuild Dromana Pier, which is reaching the end of its service life.

This project will replace the old structure with a brand-new pier, enhancing the area's appeal and safely supporting the many activities people love to do at Dromana's popular beachside.

Public piers are some of Victorians favourite places for fishing, boating, and simply enjoying time in nature, and the new Dromana Pier will provide a safe and accessible community facility for people to enjoy.

Designs for new Dromana Pier

As part of future planning for the pier, in 2021 Parks Victoria developed three early concept designs. The designs were shared to seek community and stakeholder aspirations and ideas for a new Dromana Pier. This input will be considered as part of the final design stage of the new pier.

Building on the early concept designs, this year we’re conducting detailed investigations and stakeholder conversations to shape the pier’s design and engineering requirements. Designs for the new pier are being prepared now and will be shared with the community in late 2024.

Fishing and boating access

Dromana Pier and low landing is currently open for fishing and boating, except for a section of the pier head.

Swimming and snorkelling at Dromana Pier

The area beneath Dromana Pier is closed due to the risk of spalling and deteriorated concrete, which is at risk of falling into the water below. There is signage in place to inform people of the risks. You can enjoy swimming and snorkelling at Rosebud Pier and Rye Pier.

Working with the community and our stakeholders

We’ll communicate project information via the dedicated project webpage and also work closely with representatives from local user groups and organisations as the project is delivered.

Protecting ecological values

Dromana Pier is picturesque spot on Port Phillip and the project methodology will be developed with involvement from our marine scientists and independently evaluated to mitigate potential impacts on surrounding marine ecology.
