Message from the Head of School
As we prepare to acknowledge International Day of the Girl Child tomorrow, “a day dedicated to celebrating the voices and power of girls, championing their rights worldwide, and reflecting on the challenges they continue to face because of their gender,” (Government of Canada), I am filled with a sense of hope as I look across our campus.
This year’s theme, "Girls’ Vision for the Future," resonates deeply with our CHS Identity. As you will know, we strongly believe that the agency of women and girls holds the key to a better future for all. Hence, we are dedicated to preparing our students for their futures, equipping them with the confidence and capacity to thrive and positively influence the world around them. Read more.
Learning Together
Improving Sleep for Pre-Teens and Teens with Lisa L Lewis
On Tuesday, October 22 at 12:00 pm, author Lisa L Lewis will join us for a virtual lunchtime learning session to share her top sleep tips. Lisa will discuss the latest research on sleep, its incredible importance and practical suggestions for families to improve sleep for everyone. Her presentation will respond to CHS student data and voice around sleep, ensuring a relevant and meaningful session. For more information and to register, revisit the previous communication to families here.
Senior School Coffee & Conversations
Senior School parents, please be advised of two upcoming drop-in (no registration required) Coffee & Conversation sessions with the personal counsellors, in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge from 8:30 am to 9:30 am:
- Grade 8 to 9 session on Thursday, October 24: Transitioning to the Senior School for Grade 8 students and settling back into school for Grade 9 students can be a busy and challenging time. This session focuses on how to invite and maintain connection with your child as they transition back to school.
- Grade 10 to 12 session on Thursday, October 31: There is mounting pressure to succeed and do well. It can be very stressful and, as a parent, it is difficult to be there for your child when you can't take away their stress. At this session, learn strategies to support your child through challenge.

Notices - Action Items
Photo Retake Day: Monday, October 21
Photo retakes will occur on Monday, October 21. Junior School retakes will be from 8:30 am to 11:00 am in the Junior School Atrium, and Senior School retakes will be from 8:20 am to 11:00 am in the Heritage Dining Room of the Old Residence. Students should be in their #1 Uniform for the photo.
Priority is given to those who have not yet had a photo taken. Any retakes will improve technical issues (e.g., eyeglass glare, poor posture/head tilt or eyes closed). The retake will replace the original photo taken earlier in the year (no choice between the two photos will be available).
Ivy Compass Jacket Drive
The Ivy Compass team (Senior School) is holding a jacket drive for our service partner, the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre (DEWC) from October 28-31. Students, staff, and families are invited to drop off a warm jacket, fleece or rain jacket in the Senior School Upper Foyer and receiving. We are accepting jacket sizes for teens and adults (no children's jackets please). Learn more about DEWC. |
