News and events in Ku-ring-gai No images? Click here NewsFrom the MayorKu-ring-gai is taking a stand against gender-based violence and is participating in 16 Days of Activism, the national campaign running from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day). Here in Ku-ring-gai, reported incidents of domestic-violence assault have increased by 85% over the past decade — and those are only the cases that get reported. We must continue raising awareness and taking meaningful action to prevent gender-based violence. So thank you to everyone who came to Wednesday’s Walk the Talk event at Hornsby-Ku-ring-gai PCYC. On a brighter note, I’m thrilled to announce that Council won the 2025 PIA NSW Award for Planning Excellence, for our innovative planning scheme as an alternative to the state’s transport-oriented development policy. It’s important recognition that our housing plan will better protect heritage and the environment while meeting the state’s housing targets. With Christmas approaching, I invite our community to help support neighbours who may be feeling isolated or experiencing financial hardship. Donate packaged food, tinned goods, toys or cash to our Mayor’s Christmas Appeal. All donations go into hampers that Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury will distribute locally. You can drop-off items at Council’s Customer Service Centre (818 Pacific Highway, Gordon), Lifeline at 4 Park Avenue Gordon, or Ku-ring-gai Library branches. Cash donations are also welcome and go directly toward the hampers. The appeal closes at 5 pm, Friday 12 December. Finally, I’m pleased to let you know we’ve upgraded our e-request platform for reporting things like potholes on Council roads, fallen trees or barking dogs. It’s now more mobile friendly and lets you track the status of your request from any device. Visit our website to try it out.
