Policy Fees: Charging and Filing Requirements
Policy fees can become complex when multiple parties are involved in the placement of surplus lines coverage. If you have questions or would like assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our staff. Quick Reminders: - Pursuant to Florida Statute 626.916, only the filing surplus lines agent and the retail/producing agent with a direct relationship to the insured may charge a reasonable per-policy fee. A separate broker or agency fee may not be charged for the policy.
- The
filing surplus lines agent’s policy fee may be charged only once per policy term, even when more than one agent participates in the placement.
To Remain Compliant, Policy Fees Must Be: - Reasonable
- Itemized separately to the insured before purchase
- Enumerated in the policy (for the filing surplus lines agent policy fee only)
Don’t Forget: When submitting a transaction in FSLSO SLIP+, the filing surplus lines agent policy fee must be reported in the Surplus Lines Agent Policy Fee field and should not be included in the Premium field. Amounts that should be entered in the Premium field include charges such as membership, survey, inspection, service, and similar fees associated with the insurance contract, but excludes the surplus lines agent policy fee, FSLSO service fee, taxes, and assessments. Surplus lines agent fees must be included in the calculation of the surplus lines premium tax. Proper disclosure and accurate reporting of policy fees help ensure compliance and reduce common filing errors. For complete requirements, you can refer to Florida Statute 626.916 and the Agent Procedures Manual.
Action Required: MFA Will Be Mandatory
Starting January 1, 2027
To better protect your account and the sensitive information in SLIP+, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be required for all SLIP+ users beginning January 1, 2027. MFA adds a second step of security when you log in. After you enter your password, you'll confirm it's really you with a code sent by text message (SMS), email, or one generated by an authenticator app. So even if someone gets your password, they still can't get into your account without that crucial second step. MFA is currently available in SLIP+, and we encourage you to set it up before the deadline.
- Avoid login interruptions: Starting January 1, users who have not enabled MFA will be prompted to set it up before they can reach SLIP+.
- Stay ahead of year-end deadlines: Setting up MFA now means one less thing to deal with during a busy filing season.
- Protect your agency: MFA is one of the most effective ways to prevent unauthorized access to your account.
To enable MFA in SLIP+, simply log in and follow the MFA prompts. If you have
questions or need help, contact us at agent.services@fslso.com or call 800.562.4496, option 1.
