Coffee with Admissions
We know that many students and families come to Crofton House through word-of-mouth from our community. CHS families are invited to join Richard Cohee, Director, Enrolment Management & Admissions, and his team on Tuesday, October 7, or Tuesday, October 28, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Heritage Dining Room of the Old Residence. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day
In 2021, the Government of Canada established September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour and reflect on the history and legacy of residential schools. Leading up to September 30, students have been taking part in learning and activities connected to Truth and Reconciliation. Details of some of the activities on campus will be shared in the next edition of ECalls. Students and staff are invited to wear an orange shirt on Monday, September 29, for Orange Shirt Day. Students should wear their orange shirts with their uniform. The School will be closed on Tuesday, September 30, in recognition of the day.
A list of related resources is available on the school website.

Students and parents/guardians from Grades 10 to 12 are invited to join the Career Education & Post-Secondary Counselling Department at the US Mini Fair on Wednesday, October 8, at 3:30 pm in the Senior School Upper and Lower Foyers! L'Shanah Tovah and G'mar Chatimah Tovah!
As we continue in this season of reflection and renewal, we extend our warmest wishes to the Jewish families in our community. Rosh Hashanah welcomed the Jewish New Year earlier this week, from Monday, September 22, to Wednesday, September 24. Looking ahead, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, will be observed from Wednesday, October 1, to Thursday, October 2. It is a time for reflection, fasting, and seeking forgiveness. May these High Holidays bring peace, joy, and a renewed spirit. |

The Susan Hutchison Garden, Where Plants and Animals Can Talk

On Monday, September 15, Grade 1-7 students, families, Mrs Hutchison and her husband, and the Crofton House community came together in Chan Hall to officially celebrate the opening of the Susan Hutchison Garden, Where Plants and Animals Can Talk. The garden honours Mrs Hutchison, former Director, Junior School, for her over 20 years of service to our community and the lessons she taught each Junior School student in her time with the School.
The garden has been a space for curiosity, joy, and play for the 2024-2025 school year, with many memories already made within its trees and trails. Learn more about the garden in this Junior School Crofton Chronicle article, written by students Evan, Naomi, and Joyce last year.

Spotlight on Canada at the CHS Community Book Club

At the first CHS Community Book Club meeting of the year, these enthusiastic readers chose a book connected to Canada—whether by author or setting. The mix of stories sparked a warm, lively discussion and left book club-goers with plenty of new reading recommendations. Thank you again to Ching Chen for her continued leadership of the Book Club.
Mark your calendars for the next CHS Community Book Club on Wednesday, October 29, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge, where the works of acclaimed and prolific Australian author Liane Moriarty will be discussed! Her works include the New York Times bestsellers (and each now a popular television series!) Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers, and Apples Never Fall. Choose a title that speaks to you, enjoy the journey, and bring your reflections to share. No pre-registration is required. All CHS parents and alumnae are invited - free to drop in!
Note: The evening book club has been on hiatus for the past year due to low interest. If you are interested in an evening book club next year, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out to auxiliary@croftonhouse.ca.
