We have several new decisions and consultations to let you know about in our last e-newsletter for 2021. HS Update will return to your inbox in late February, as we eye up another busy year at the Environmental Protection Authority.

There’s under a month left to have your say on the potential phase-out of hydrogen cyanamide, an active ingredient in sprays commonly used by kiwifruit growers.

Make sure it is ticked off your pre-Christmas to-do list by 5.00pm on 20 December, when submissions close.

Broad spectrum response on broad spectrum herbicide

We are beginning to analyse the 465 responses received on our call for information on glyphosate.

Over the coming months we will be reviewing and analysing the information that has been provided, and plan to publish a summary report in early 2022.

Public submissions are now open on an application to import a new fungicide to control downy mildew in onions and late blight in tomatoes and potatoes.

Hazard classification update underway for two fungicides

A proposal to update the hazard classification of two fungicides, in line with changes recently made in the European Union and Australia, is now open for public submissions. The EPA has initiated an application for a modified reassessment of the fungicides, propiconazole and tebuconazole.

A new fungicide which controls bunch rot and powdery mildew in grapes has been approved for use in New Zealand, subject to conditions.

Christmas import deadline

Time is running out if you are intending to import explosives, certain children's art supplies, or ozone depleting substances, over the Christmas holiday period.

Make sure you have submitted a complete application by 6 December.
