It’s no mystery that having too much body fat can be harmful to our health. But not all fat is created equal – it’s where we carry it that matters.
A recent study found that carrying extra fat around the abdomen is linked to a higher risk of early death, regardless of a person’s weight. And people who store most of their fat on their hips and thighs have a lower risk of premature death. Rebecca Dumbell explains that it largely comes down to the two types of fat tissue that our body creates — with the belly being the main place that dangerous visceral fat gathers.
Hate spiders? Blame the media. At least, that’s what a recent Italian study has suggested, finding that alarmist news coverage of arachnids might be stoking our fears.
Meanwhile, the world’s attention is turning to something potentially more anxiety-inducing: the US election. With just over a month until the election, some speculate whether a late-breaking news story – dubbed an “October surprise” – could have the power to sway voters as they head to the polls.
