From the MayorCouncil is celebrating an important win for tree protection. We recently had a successful prosecution for illegal removal of a Norfolk Island Pine tree in Killara. While we cannot undo the damage done in this particular case, we hope that this will serve as an important reminder to property owners, builders and developers to always comply with conditions of consent, take measures to protect trees during works and never remove trees without Council permission.
This week the Council voted to adopt a special rate variation for much needed upgrades to community infrastructure such as public buildings, drainage and footpaths. We will provide updates on how the special rate variation is being spent once work gets underway later this year. We have an exciting new festival concept for which we are currently seeking expressions of interest from food businesses. Ku-ring-gai Cravings is set to go ahead in August, showcasing undiscovered local eateries that shine after dark. If you know a business that might like to be involved please ask them to nominate on our website. With the July school holidays rapidly approaching, why not book your children into one of the many activities we have planned at our libraries, the Wildflower Garden and elsewhere. There is literally something for everyone! Check out what’s happening on our website. Have a relaxing weekend. Mayor Christine Kay
