Happy Fathers' Day! Your role begins way before your baby is born. You can love your child while s/he is still in the womb ...
Consider this:
Men are the #1 influencers when women facing unplanned, unwanted pregnancies decide on a plan. Yes, women in relationships ask their male partners for input 74% of the time. In a survey of 1,000 US men who knew about their partner’s pregnancy ...
YOUR gentle encouragement could make all the difference!
*42% of men whose partners had an abortion encouraged or strongly urged the woman to do so.
*31% say they didn’t give any advice at all.
*27% say they advised or strongly urged their partner not to go through with the abortion.
Unsuccessfully. Men ARE involved. And if they suggest adoption, they can even choose parents and STAY involved in their child's upbringing.
Let's encourage them to speak up.
Happy Fathers' Day!
This year, the Idaho State Legislature passed our three bills to increase awareness about adoption and assist birth mothers. Often, States will use other States' trailblazing bills as templates -- but only if they know about them. Getting the word out is most efficiently done at a conference where lawmakers are gathered. Lila Rose's LiveAction Pro-Life Lawmakers Summit is just such a place! I'm thrilled to be invited to share at this unique event. We've been working with Live Action to add an adoption track this year. And I'm thrilled to be invited to share our successes before 75+ Lawmakers from around the country. They will attend free of charge, so the speakers help to fund the Summit. Will you help make this happen? Please donate here.
This beautiful ministry serves foster and adoptive Moms in Silicon Valley. They celebrated and encouraged an entire roomful of 'second Moms' with a special brunch, and I was honored to be the keynote speaker. Missed it?? Here's the video!

The Reason for our Policy Work
Last Spring we talked with Idaho's Superintendent of Education. She fully supported bringing adoption education into the classroom and asked if we could help her find a curriculum. So we researched a dozen different health ed / sex ed courses for her and found nothing that educated on adoption. Then we talked with a few of those content providers and asked them if they would add it, and the responses were not promising. That's why we turned to legislation. With the support of Superintendent Debbie Critchfield's office, that route was the most efficient. Now our suggestion to teach current adoption practices (when they discuss contraception) is now law in Idaho.
The Strategy behind our Policy Work
While these States are saying ‘no’ to abortion, we encourage them to say ‘yes’ to adoption! We hope to enact "pro-adoption" legislation nationally. We're so grateful for our success in Idaho, where we got three bills passed to help birth mothers and to build awareness about adoption. Our early supporters, the Lt Gov Scott Bedke and Senator Julie VanOrden, both invited us to come back next session and tackle a second set of legislative priorities. So exciting! Clearly, the time is right for this work! And, with your support, we will keep going!
Imagine if these States made it easier to choose adoption!

Phrase of the Day: Open Adoption
Open adoption is a form of adoption in which the biological and adoptive families have each other's contact information and varying degrees of contact with each other, by phone, in person and/or through social media.
OPEN ADOPTION;
It's Not Like the Olden Days!
All of this is about spreading the word about open adoption -- a reasonable option for women facing unplanned pregnancy. The 1970s and 80s were all about closed adoptions. Then we discovered the beauty of open adoption. Learn more about open adoption in this short video.
DID YOU KNOW? - Fewer than 0.5% of women facing unplanned pregnancy make an adoption plan?
- When they do, it's because an adult in their life encouraged them to consider adoption?
- There are over one million U.S. couples waiting now to adopt?

Why are we doing this?
Young women are 50% more likely to make an adoption plan when the trusted adult in their life suggests it to them. Otherwise, most girls don't give it a minute's thought, and choose between abortion or single parenting. That's why we need to get this on the radar of more people.
