At the end of a long day in front of my computer I like to unwind…by scrolling through endless news headlines and memes on my phone. Let’s face it: screens are everywhere and they’re here to stay. But while I’m an adult and can (sometimes) manage my own screen time, kids and teenagers probably need a little more help. That’s where parents, caregivers and teachers come in. Catherine Draper explains what we know - and don’t - about the effects of screen time on
kids’ development and offers some advice to create more balance in your little ones’ lives.
If you love African culture, one of the best things you could do for yourself this week is to subscribe to Tender Photo, a newsletter that appears in your inbox twice a week courtesy of Nigerian author and photographer Emmanuel Iduma. Each edition contains a striking photo from a mid-career contemporary African photographer that Iduma analyses with simplicity and insight - as well as commentary from the photographer about Taking the shot. Tinashe Mushakavanhu interviews Iduma about the project.
