Tanzania will be holding local elections next month that are expected to offer a preview of how the presidential election will go in 2025. The ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has been in power for more than six decades. Now, however, the country’s main opposition party, Chadema, is putting up one of the strongest challenges to this dominance. This has led to a crackdown on opposition voices. Tundu Lissu - one of Chadema’s leaders - has become the face of opposition following his unrelenting criticism of government repression. Nicodemus Minde tracks Lissu’s political rise.
