What's On in Central Otago - May

Photo credit; Maxine Williams. A lovely evening was had by all who attended the opening of Dick Frizzell@OCTA last month. This exhibition of original screen prints by Frizzell is on until the 28th of May
and is well worth taking a trip to OCTA Gallery and Workshop in the Cromwell Heritage Precinct to view. On Friday the 24th of May, Central Stories Museum and Gallery will be hosting an evening with Dick Frizzell, a celebration of the opening of 'Bark', a chance to meet the artist and enjoy some Central Otago wine and nibbles. This exhibition will show at Central Stories from the 24th May to the 19th of April. The Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival opens this week. This festival brings together over 60 local, national and international writers and thinkers for 4 days of performance, workshops, conversations and entertainment. Amoung the 36 events offered this year is an evening of Poetry at the Savoy with Central Otago poet Michael Harlow who will be joined by Liz Breslin, David Eggleton, Tayi Tibble and Majella Cullinane. If writing is your thing you may also enjoy an exciting opportunity to be guided by celebrated New Zealand novelists, poets, producers and directors Brian Turner, Mike Riddell, Jillian Sullivan, Rosemary Riddell, Declan Wong, Bridget Musters and Paula Wagemaker. Novice and experienced writers are invited to register now for the inaugural Under Rough Ridge Writers' Retreat - a spring weekend in the historically rich, Ida Valley. The revered Luma Southern Light Project opens this year on May 31st and runs for four days over the Queen’s Birthday weekend. LUMA is a
free public event, showcasing a curated collection of stunning light sculptures and installations, with a focus on transformation of space, public interaction, art, culture and education. Follow Luma on facebook to keep up-to-date with the 2019 offerings. Enjoy everything on in the arts in Central Otago in May.
