Banks Peninsula Community News - 5 February 2021

Christchurch City Council

Greetings from your Community Board

Message from the Chair

Kia ora koutou,
Happy New Year to all and welcome to the first edition of our community board newsletter for 2021. On behalf of our Board, I hope you all had a great break with friends and whānau.
There's lots coming up this year, with consultation on the Banks Peninsula Speed Limit review now open, and consultation on the city's Draft 2021-31 Long Term Plan opening in March.
Summer is still in full swing, with lots of events and activities around our beautiful Peninsula. From community markets to music festivals, there's lots of opportunities to get out and connect with your community. Remember Level 3 water restrictions apply for parts of Banks Peninsula, so let's all do our part to keep local water demand at a manageable level.
Stay together, look after one another.

Chair of the Community Board

Board Chair, Tori Peden

Level 3 water restrictions for parts of Banks Peninsula

Water restrictions have been increased from Level 2 to Level 3 for Akaroa, Duvauchelle and Takamatua on Banks Peninsula as increasingly hot and windy conditions put pressure on water supplies. Level 3 restrictions means hand-held hosing only on alternate days, with no outdoor water use on any day between 3pm and 9pm. Unattended hoses, sprinklers, and garden irrigation systems are not permitted at any time.

Banks Peninsula speed limit review

We're making changes so it's safer for everyone to drive around the Peninsula. Our proposed plan to lower speed limits on Banks Peninsula – including Akaroa and Lyttelton – is now open for public feedback. We're proposing 40km/h speed limits for sections of the two main townships, and Cass Bay, and a 40km/h limit in Waipapa Avenue Diamond Harbour, and significantly lower speeds – from 100km/h to 60km/h – along many winding rural roads.
People can provide feedback on the proposed changes via the Council’s Have Your Say webpage until Thursday, 25 February.
