NSF issues new table on disclosures relating to biosketches and current and pending support
The newest table is dated 20 April 2022 and includes a definition of honorarium. Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Current and Pending Support have been updated and new questions have been added.

SciENcv will become mandatory for NSF current and pending support information later this year
Current and pending support information may currently be provided through use of either SciENcv or the NSF fillable PDF format. Upon implementation of the next PAPPG (NSF 23-1), use of the NSF fillable format will no longer be permitted.

Department of Energy Office of Science  (SC) supported manuscripts - reminder
Recipients of SC funded awards must submit the accepted manuscript for any published journal article using the DOE E-Link system within one year of the publication date. Final manuscripts are available through DOE PAGES and OSTI.GOV.

New patents to Brown
A patent was awarded for joint work between George Konidaris (Computer Science) and Duke University on methods facilitating motion planning of self-driving cars (US11292456B2). The technology is licensed to Realtime Robotics.

The NSF-wide CAREER program supports early-career faculty with potential to serve as academic role models in research and education. NSF is hosting identical webinars on CAREER solicitation NSF-22-586 on Tuesday 5/10 & Monday 5/16 at 2 pm. Register.

Support for Ukraine

  • Add your lab to the list of Labs supporting Ukrainian Scientists. 
  • Visit the #ScienceForUkraine website to offer academic refuge.
  • Currently supported DOE researchers can request supplemental funds to host or collaborate with students and scientists who have been impacted by the conflict.

NIAAA issues new Human Subjects Grants Research Data-Sharing Guidance
NIAAA has begun a new data-sharing initiative to create a data repository of future NIAAA-funded studies that include human subjects, called the NIAAA Data Archive (NIAAADA).

The new NIH Scientific Data Sharing website
The new NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy goes into effect January 25, 2023. Check out the new NIH Scientific Data Sharing website, a one-stop shop for all the information you need to know about NIH sharing policies.

IACUC website - resources for researchers
Did you know the IACUC has a website where you can find helpful and quick information related to protocol submission, FAQs, award requirements, submission deadlines, and so much more?

Expanded One Application Policy
Starting May 2022, all new studies (Full Board, Expedited, Exempt) submitted to the IRB/HRPP are subject to the One Application Policy. Approved studies will maintain one application reflecting all procedures and amendments.

New IRB/HRPP calendar
Use the IRB/HRPP calendar to register for human subjects research education by Brown, CITI, FDA, OHRP, and more, as well as events hosted by Brown human subjects researchers.

HHS updates Informed Consent Form Posting Instructions
Updates include when/how to post a consent for clinical trials, which consent to post, and what to do for collaborative research. Visit HRPP's Clinical Trials for more information and for guidance on studies with a waiver of consent.

FDA issues new Refuse to Accept Policy for 510(k)s (FDA-2012-D-0523)
This policy explains the FDA's criteria for assessing if a premarket notification [510(k)] submission for a medical device meets a minimum threshold of acceptability and should be accepted for substantive review.

NSF Virtual Grants Conference - June 2022
Join the National Science Foundation June 6-10, 2022 for the Spring 2022 NSF Virtual Grants Conference. This conference is a must, especially for new faculty, researchers and administrators. Registration is free and opens 5/11 at noon.

 

NIH Federal Updates

NINDS Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research
NINDS uses the Diversity Supplement program to provide “bridge funds” while the supplementee gains the research experience to apply for NIH funding such as a National Research Service Award (NRSA) or Career Development Award.

 

NSF Federal Updates

NSF seeks comment on the next PAPPG which governs proposals and awards
NSF published a notice in the Federal Register announcing the availability of a "For comment" draft of the Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 23-1). Comments are accepted until close of business June 13, 2022.
