Dear Parents and Carers,
It is hard to believe how quickly these nine weeks have passed. Year 6 Camp, NAPLAN, Swimming Carnivals, Parent Interviews and Harmony Day have all made for a full and rewarding term and have reminded us just how much happens in a short space of time.
Every school day counts, and our teachers work hard to make the best use of valuable classroom time while also supporting the wellbeing of every student. We know children learn best when they feel safe, connected and ready to learn. At the same time, we remain committed to a balanced curriculum that builds strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while also providing rich opportunities across the arts, sciences, humanities, technologies and physical education. Achieving this balance in a busy school setting is not always simple, but it remains central to a well-rounded education for every child.

Harmony Day Cultural Breakfast and Parade
A massive thank you to our HASS Committee teachers, Sandy Thornett, Marisha Burnside and Chris Shorter, for helping bring our Harmony Day Cultural Breakfast to life. It was bigger and better than we had imagined, and such a joyful success that it certainly looks as though it may become an annual event.
Thank you also to our wonderful families who so generously contributed delicious dishes representing their cultures, traditions and family heritage for us all to enjoy. We feel very fortunate to be part of such a diverse and multicultural school community, and we hope you enjoyed the breakfast as much as we did. Events like this remind us of the richness of our community and the value of coming together to celebrate belonging, inclusion and respect.

Congratulations to Julius Winners of the 2026 Swimming Carnival.
A huge thank you to Ashley Clancy for the outstanding organisation of the carnival. It was an exceptionally well-run event and a wonderful showcase of student participation and school spirit. Our students should be commended for the way they approached the day with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and determination. It was pleasing to see students supporting one another, competing strongly and, most importantly, being willing to have a go.
Thank you also to all staff who worked tirelessly throughout the day to support the carnival and ensure everything ran so smoothly. It was also fantastic to have so many parent helpers on hand and such strong support from spectators. Congratulations to everyone involved on a highly successful day.

Keen2STEAM Competition
Congratulations to our Keen2STEAM teams, who placed third in the interschool Keen2STEAM competition held on Wednesday 1 April.
This event was run by teachers from Churchlands Primary School and held at the collaborative learning facilities at Churchlands Senior High School. Keen2STEAM promotes student engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, while also encouraging students to think about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, real-world issues, and the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are so important for today’s learners.
Our STEAM teacher, Jennie Richardson, took eight students to the competition, where they worked with like-minded peers in teams of four to complete a series of STEM-based challenges. Students also heard from guest speaker Dr Bruce Webber, Environmental Scientist, and explored a STEAM display from Churchlands Senior High School.
We are very proud of all of our students for the way they represented Subiaco Primary School.
As we come to the end of a very full and successful term, I would like to thank our school community for your ongoing support, encouragement and partnership.
I wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable term break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 2.
Warm regards,
Heather McNeil

WaitMate
|
 |
| |
This new school year, we are continuing to encourage Subiaco Primary School families to sign the WaitMate pledge and join the movement that helps parents pause smartphone use until at least Year 9. Let's give our children their childhoods back and help to change the disturbing mental health trends for our future teens.
It's easy to feel helpless in the face of technology, and the intensity of peer pressure to use and own a smartphone. Through signing the WaitMate pledge, you will be connected with like-minded Subiaco Primary School parents in your year group. Banding together will reduce the pressure on children and parents alike to have a smartphone.
Many parents say "yes" to smartphones early because so many other families have said "yes". What if together we choose to say "not yet"? What difference would it make if our children had a few more years smartphone-free? There are so many good reasons to wait before giving your child a smartphone: www.waitmate.org.au/why-wait
The pledge is for smartphones only. If you would like your child to have a basic phone that just calls and texts, you can still sign the pledge! The basic phone avoids many of the distractions and potential dangers of the smartphone. There are examples of several basic phones here: Basic Smartphones
If you haven’t signed up, but would like to pledge, you will connect with like-minded Subiaco Primary School families in your year group. All you have to do is follow the process below.
-
Sign the pledge: www.waitmate.org.au
-
Let other families know about this initiative.
-
The page unlocks when 10 families in your year group have signed.
-
You will then receive an email to connect you with the other like-minded families who have signed in your year group, so that you can stand stronger, together. As more families join, you will be updated monthly.
Last year, 183 Subiaco Primary School families pledged to join the movement, and we hope 2026 brings many more!
Thank you for supporting this initiative.

School Photo Day is Coming
|
 |
| |
Your school photo day is coming! Every student will receive a personalised flyer to bring home from Kapture Photography containing your child’s unique codes for ordering school photos online.
KEEP YOUR FLYER SECURE!
The unique codes contained on the flyer will be issued only once.
Order EARLY for sibling photos
Sibling photos can ONLY be ordered online. Once you receive the personalised flyers for your children, it is imperative that you order your sibling photo early to avoid missing out! There is a physical limit in the school schedule to how many sibling photos can be taken. Once the maximum capacity of sibling orders has been reached, no more sibling orders can be placed.
If maximum capacity is not reached, sibling orders close 12.00pm midday sharp, one business day prior to the first photo day.
The school or the photographers cannot accept late orders for sibling photography. Please do not ask as your request simply cannot be accommodated.
Order EARLY for discount photo day prices
Order your photos up to 10 calendar days after photo day to receive discount photo day prices. Late orders are handled separately to the school delivery and incur a $30 custom service charge.
Other information
Kapture offer a money back guarantee for any parent who is not fully satisfied with their photo package. Should you have any queries before or after photo day, please check the FAQ’s on the Kapture website.
We request that students who are displaying signs of respiratory and / or gastrointestinal illnesses do not attend school specifically to be included in their class photo. Having students with communicable illnesses attend the photography venues puts other students, school staff and Kapture staff at risk – especially those that are already immunocompromised. Students who are unable to attend school photo day can book a studio appointment at our Malaga office to be photographed during school holidays. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Your school will notify you in a few weeks when team and special group photos are available to view and purchase on the Kapture website. Please note; class, individual and sibling portraits are not available to view online prior to purchase.
All students will be photographed individually on photo day for school administration records AS WELL as included in their class group presentation available for purchase to all families. Should there be any reason why your child should NOT be included in the photo shoot –please contact the school office.

Harmony Day Cultural Breakfast
On Tuesday, 24 March, we celebrated Harmony Day with a vibrant cultural breakfast, followed by a colourful parade. The event was a wonderful success, with a wide variety of delicious dishes representing many cultures, all enjoyed by our school community.
A sincere thank you to everyone who contributed food and assisted on the day. Your generosity and support were greatly appreciated and played a key role in the success of the event.
Funds raised through gold coin donations covered the cost of tablecloths, plates, and cutlery, with the remaining proceeds donated to the Social Justice Group to support their charitable initiatives.
Thank you for helping make this celebration such a memorable occasion.

A New Name is Coming… Smart Schools
School Lunch Online will soon become Smart Schools.
What will happen? Over the coming weeks the school will move across to the New Smart Schools Platform.
While the name and look are changing, the people behind the system remain exactly the same. Smart Schools is still the same Australian owned and operated family business, run by people who understand how hectic school mornings can be.
Our goal remains the same — helping schools and families manage lunches, uniforms and events easily and reliably online. The updated system allows us to continue improving the service we provide to schools and families.

Reminders
Birthday Celebrations
If your child’s birthday falls on a school day and you would like bring in a treat for the class, please consider healthy, nut free alternatives. Commercially bought, individual cup cakes are acceptable but due to our healthy eating policy we would rather parents not provide chocolates or lollies.
Student Absences
Enter an Attendance Note on Compass
A parent explanation is required for all student absences. Please enter this on Compass. Parent reminders will be emailed every Monday for any unexplained absences.
Updating School Records
If your address, telephone number or email address has changed, please contact the school office.
Publications Permission
Upon enrolment, parents decide whether to give consent for their child’s name, photo or work to be published in school newsletters, school related activities, promotional material for the Department of Education and articles for the West Australian and community newspapers. This consent continues for your child while enrolled at our school. If at any stage you want to change the permission status, then you will need to notify the office in writing.
