WELCOMING A NEW YEAR AND NEW DECADE

"Don't let yesterday take up too much of today."
- Will Rogers

GET READY FOR NEW BEGINNINGS

We all know what a challenging year 2020 was, and that we will continue feeling the effects indefinitely.

An effective approach to challenging situations, to become more present and ready to create the future:

- Acknowledge, feel, release ALL the emotions. ("I see you, I feel you, I love you, I let you go.")

- Ask yourself to receive and accept all the positive lessons.

- Consciously FORGIVE yourself, and others, and the situation – for disappointments, feeling like a victim, feeling unprepared, making mistakes.

HAPPY NATIONAL SCREENWRITERS' DAY - TUESDAY, JANUARY 5

Start the year by exploring the soul of a screenplay and yourself as a writer.

There are three spots available for SOULFUL SCREENWRITING, an empowering, interactive, intimate workshop about dramatic writing - screenplay, TV, stage play, novel:

– crucial dramatic ingredients
– common dramatic writing pitfalls
– creative writing exercises

FACING DOWN IMPOSTER SYNDROME

Imposter Syndrome is the sneaking suspicion that you might be "a fraud."

Nagging doubts about your work, your value, your expertise all undermine a sense of worthiness to enjoy success and recognition.

As I'm sure you know, writers are far from immune!

Here are some insights and tools to address this malady.

FIVE FAVORITE WRITING EXERCISES TO UNLOCK CREATIVITY

Guest Post by Reedsy Writer: Savannah Cordoba

Ask any writer what their biggest daily challenge is. I guarantee you that most answers won’t focus on plot holes and flat characters, but on finding the inspiration and motivation to write. Even as someone who writes both professionally and in my spare time, I still have days where I stare at my computer screen for ages without typing a word, mind drawing a total blank.

SEEKING CONTRIBUTORS FOR ACTING BOOK

Now Write! editor Laurie Lamson has been slowly developing an exercise/preparation book for actors similar to the Now Write! books.

This will be a collection of essays from acting professionals and experts to include actors, directors, teachers, coaches and casting directors.

If you or someone you know has an acting secret, career advice, or preparation process to share with aspiring actors, you are welcome to submit a 2-5 page essay that includes an exercise / preparation / action step(s.)

As in the Now Write! books, the essay should cover why the preparation/exercise is important, and/or how the contributor has used it in their own work.

Since actors are not necessarily writers, there is the option to contribute through a brief, recorded interview. Laurie will have it transcribed, copy edit, and submit to the contributor for approval.

Possible topics:

- Researching/Developing/Embodying Characters or Portraying Real People

- Scenes: Planning Motivations, Beat Changes, Blocking, etc.

- Dialogue & Subtext

- Thematics – Telling the Story Through Character Choices

- Working in a Specific Medium – Stage, Film, TV, Webseries, Voice Acting

- Choosing Material
 Monologues & Roles

- Collaboration – Working with Writers, Directors, other Actors

- Acting Career – Business Side, Auditioning, etc.

- Special Challenges of Film Acting – Scenes Out of Sequence/Gaps in Filming Time/Playing Without Real Actors & Environment

If interested in participating: please email Laurie.
