Welcome to the February newsletter

Dear

February is a special month as we get to celebrate so many couples that met at Leeds Trinity. Thank you to all of you who shared your pictures and memories on Valentine's Day. Sticking to the Valentine's topic, you can read more about how technology is transforming romance from Nicky Danino, Head of School of Computer Science.

This month, Alumni Officer Brett Arnall also shared his thoughts about how social sport on campus has had a profound influence on his staff experience. And on a similar subject, if your new year fitness resolutions haven't quite worked out so far, this story from our sport psychology and fitness experts may help!

Ready to welcome writers

Our Writers' Festival 2024 is approaching soon. Taking place on Wednesday 6 March,10:00am – 5:00pm, you have the chance to participate in workshops and our line-up of speakers includes several alumni.

The Festival is free for Leeds Trinity University alumni. Find out more.

Alumni talk Psychology

In February we hosted our inaugural Psychology Week and as you can guess our alumni were a big part of it.

As part of the week, on Valentine's Day we weclomed back Mark Nesti (Human Movement, Class of 1983) as a keynote speaker on sport psychology and then had a wonderful alumni panel sharing their success stories and top tips. Read more.

Hear from our SU President

19 February marked Presidents' Day so we used the opportunity to catch up with the current Students' Union President, Kelsey Howard-Matthews.

Kelsey shared her story of being President for two consecutive terms. She talks about why she became President, her best memories and her advice for the incoming President. See the video.

Our Champions of Childhood

Well done to alumna Katie Simpson (English and Media, 2001) on organising a brilliant 2024 Champions of Childhood Conference.

Katie is currently Programme Leader for Working with Children, Young People and Families. She organised a day of exceptional speakers for the second annual conference with a packed audience (even on a train strike day!).

Speakers included Roger Slee (Diamond Jubilee Chair in Disability and Inclusion at the University of Leeds) and several alumni  Find out more.

Law School event

Our Law School will be hosting an event on 13 March from 5.00pm at our Main Campus in Horsforth.

Law Connections: The SQE and the legal education landscape - what do you need to know? will focus on the legal education landscape and the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). We would welcome our alumni community who are working in the legal profession to attend and to also make their legal colleagues aware of this fantastic opportunity to hear from our own expert in this area Dr Jess Guth, Deputy Head of the Law School at Leeds Trinity.

The event is not about pathways or routes to qualification; instead, we are focusing on how legal education is changing and what that means for the knowledge and skills of new entrants joining legal firms, in addition to what might need developing.

The event is free to attend. Find out more.

Featured alumni – Brad Lount and Jess Benson

Keeping with the Valentine's theme, we welcomed Brad Lount (Secondary PE and Sports Coaching, 2020 and PGCE Primary, 2021) and Jess Benson (Primary Education, 2020) back to campus a few weeks ago. They met at Leeds Trinity and are getting married next year.

They were both student ambassadors during their studies, which enabled them to meet students on other courses and also build their confidence. Read more about Brad and Jess on their alumni profiles.
