Looks like an Exciting Year at Unplanned Good!

Going into 2026, our focus remains on 1) increasing awareness of open adoption as an option for women facing unplanned pregnancy, and 2) supporting the brave women who choose adoption, then choose parents, for their babies.
Those two goals underscore all we do.
Fewer than 1% of the 2.8 million US women facing unplanned pregnancies each year choose adoption. We believe that more education and improved birth mother care are key to ensure that women have all the information and support they need. With that, we think more women will choose adoption.

Adoption as an Option Gets Primetime TLC!

Superbowl Commercial

Yesterday, February 8, many of us joined friends and family to watch Super Bowl LX. Did you watch the halftime show there? or did you tune in to TPUSA's halftime show?  If you went over to TPUSA, you saw the TV spot produced by our friends at the Opt Institute. If you missed it, you can watch here.  We applaud this effort and hope it sparks some great conversations, long after the game is over.

THANK YOU
for Supporting our January Trip to DC!

Thurs., 1/22: Meeting with HHS in DC

The Unplanned Good team was at HHS to talk with them about "The Third Option"; starting state-level programs to improve adoption education and birth mother care/support. We greatly appreciate the Assistant Secretary's heart for this matter!
Idaho is the first Third Option State, and we're hoping to get Federal funding for the 16 others that want to become Third Option States.

Fri., 1/23:  March for Life in DC

Terri has attended the March in other States but never before in DC!  It was exciting to join about 100,000 marchers who came out to brave the cold.

Sat., 1/24: Speaking at the Pro Life Summit in DC

The first live speaking engagement of the year was at the "Students for Life" annual conference in DC. I was honored to be one of the panelists on the "Policies for Life" panel, giving students practical tips for responding to unplanned pregnancies.

Now Offering Adoption Training to PRCs!

Adoption training enables counselors to speak confidently with patients about today's open adoption. Last year, after our PRC in California held a training, adoption referrals went from 7 in 2024 to 29 in 2025, a huge increase(!) In December, we conducted training at a pregnancy resource center (PRC) in Idaho, helping staff to start conversations about adoption. Since this 90-minute "bite-sized" training was so well-received, we are now offering this online for PRCs across the country. If women get ALL the info about ALL their options, more will choose adoption. We look forward to reaching more clinics with these sessions.
Email unplannedgood@gmail.com to arrange yours.

Comments & Quotes from the December Session

"Following the training last month, we're talking more about adoption in our clinic. It made the adoption conversation less scary!"

Q: What was your main takeaway?

  • The approach to engaging with clients in advocacy. Inviting them for conversation about what has changed with adoption and setting goal of open engagement
  • I learned how to better frame the conversation to help clients see adoption as a way to exercise their power in a positive way.
  • The percentage of women who wouldn't put their baby up for adoption instead of having an abortion.
  • I think adoption is not only a viable option to an unplanned pregnancy, I think it's an attractive option.

Q: What surprised you today?

  • That less than 1% choose adoption.
  • The statistics around how infrequently adoption occurs were stunning (and sad).
  • I didn't realize the extent of open adoption

Q: Comments?

  • It was really, really good. Thank you!

Flyers for PRC Clinics

Our Board Member, Jen Nazarowski, works with the Wellbeing Services & Resources at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma WA.  She provided them with flyers for their clinic, explaining adoption to women who might be facing an unplanned pregnancy.

If your clinic needs flyers (or bookmarks or books for your waiting room), just ask!

We introduce bills in Idaho and then offer "model legislation" to the other States.

What's Next after Legislation?

You may recall our successful legislative efforts over the last two years. You can read about the six new Idaho laws we got passed here.

The last one, Idaho's Senate Concurrent Resolution 105, paved the way for another big project.  SCR 105 was passed by unanimous voice votes in both Idaho's House and Senate, and led to The Third Option initiative, (see below). A nationwide coalition of adoption professionals are advocating for these on-the-ground programs in States across the country to build awareness about adoption as an option and improve care for the women who make adoption plans  - the birth mothers.

Just launched in August 2025!

READ MORE about the Third Option here.

NEW: The Third Option

"The Third Option" was unveiled before 95 lawmakers from 40 States at the Live Action Summit in August '25.
Any State interested in following Idaho's lead and becoming "Third Option States" can do that!  Without knowing the funding details, about eight States say they are 'on board' and another eight States are 'very interested'.
You'll be hearing more about The Third Option this year.

Ongoing Podcasts Get the Word Out

We spread the word about open adoption through podcasts. Last month, on several different shows, we talk about open adoption, honoring birth parents, keeping focus on what's best for the child, and more...

On Relevant Radio's Morning Air with John Morales, we talked Sanctity of Life in January.  Listen to the Podcast here. or here

The Dr. Nurse Mama Show is hosted on American Family Radio by Dr. Jessica Peck, a pediatric nurse practitioner and mother of four. Listen or watch the show  which aired in January 2026. AUDIO and VIDEO

We greatly appreciate this chance to work with AAPLOG and hope these conversations will lead to more OB/GYNs talking with their patients more effectively about adoption.

Reaching OB/GYNs

This month, Terri and two of our Board members will attend the annual conference of the American Association of ProLife OB/GYNs (AAPLOG). Their fabulous speakers are always an education!

Unplanned Good will also host a table there for more conversations and connections with OB/GYNs.

We'll have a blog on the AAPLOG web site soon, and we're preparing for a guest spot on the AAPLOG podcast as well. Stay tuned for details on both.

A Word about our Speaking Engagements

We never know where the next opportunity will come from but Terri is always honored and welcomes speaking invitations. We happily accept speaking opportunities before regardless of "pro life" or "pro choice" perspectives - there's always new info to share and receive. Just like the books below, we engage in discussion with everyone.

More Opportunities in 2026!

We see more opportunities in 2026 to reach both States and those at the Federal level. We encourage them to increase awareness of open adoption as an option for women facing unplanned pregnancy, and to care for the brave women who choose life, then adoption, for their babies.  Will you partner with us to make this happen?

All of us on the Board are honored to do the work of Unplanned Good. We are driven by a passion for healthy, ethical open adoption and birth mother care. Terri and the Board take no salaries for our work or our time. Every dollar is put toward spreading our message about the beauty of adoption.
