Reflecting on Tumbler Ridge: Letter from Lisa Beare, Minister of Education and Child Care

As we continue to reflect on the tragic events in Tumbler Ridge, please see the following letter from Minister Beare regarding school safety. It includes helpful tools for having difficult conversations with children in age-appropriate, trauma-informed ways.

This message reaffirms the communication we shared with our school community on February 10, which includes our resource for parents created using guidance from the Ministry of Education and Child Care and Safer Schools Together. We hope you find it helpful as you continue to support your child during this time.

Gong Xi Fa Cai & Ramadan Mubarak

Wishing all who celebrate Lunar New Year (which began Tuesday, February 17, ushering in the Year of the Fire Horse) prosperity and good fortune—Gong Xi Fa Cai!

And to those observing Ramadan this month, peace, reflection, and community—Ramadan Mubarak!

Black History Month - Resources to Share

February is Black History Month! This year’s theme is “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow's Visionaries.” Both the Junior and Senior School library staff have lists of resources to support students and staff in their learning. Parents are encouraged to access these resources as well.

Grab & Go Afternoon Closure: Friday, February 27

Student Experience

What a whirlwind of energy, exploration and imagination we’ve had at CHS the last two weeks! From Fairytale Day in the Early Childhood Education Centre and matter exploration in Grade 1, to sustainability workshops in the Grade 11 Ivy Day and the Improv Club's Valentine’s show–plus the Junior School’s Lion Dance presentation!—check out all the highlights here.

Monkeys, Moose & Manuscripts: The 2025-2026 Junior School Writer-in-Residence Program

Writer-in-Residence is a CHS tradition that connects students with visiting authors from near and far, inspiring their own writers' brains in the process! So far in 2025-2026, students in Senior Kindergarten to Grade 1 and Grades 4 to 7 have each had the opportunity to work with an incredible author. Click here to find out more about their time with Rachel Poliquin ’93 and Stefania Aldana Trujillo.

Basketball continues with plenty of action across CHS! In the Junior School, ISEA Playdays and final league matchups brought a buzz to the courts. In the Senior School, the bantam team is gearing up for their ISAs, the junior team clinched the 2026 Junior Girls League Championship in an epic overtime thriller, and the varsity team celebrated a big win as the 2026 Zone Champions following a strong league finish–the first time CHS has won this title in School history! Check out the athletics blog to learn more and hear about January’s Athletes of the Month.

Participation, Representation & Lifelong Wellness: National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Each year, National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebrates the achievements of women and girls in athletics, and the power of sports to inspire confidence, leadership, and lifelong wellness. It’s a chance to recognize not only athletic accomplishment, but also the teamwork and joy that come from being active at any level. The week surrounding Wednesday, February 4, included a variety of opportunities for students to both enjoy being active and to reflect on activity and wellness in their lives. Read more (and enjoy some photos from our archives, too!).

Tools for Schools: Equipping Every Student to Succeed

Our annual Tools for School campaign (formerly the Backpack Drive) is underway, and this year, the need is greater than ever. With your support, Crofton House families provide essential school supplies to hundreds of students across the Lower Mainland through our partnerships with the Vancouver School Board and YWCA Single Mothers’ Support Service. See the February 18 email for more details.

Our goal is to beat last year’s 300 supply kits—and we can’t do it without you! A full supply kit costs $60, and you are welcome to donate as many kits as you wish. Click here to donate, until Wednesday, March 11. Please help us reach our goal today!

Grade 1-7 Parents: Last Chance to Purchase Tickets!

A reminder that tomorrow is the final day to purchase tickets to the Junior School Family Dance, "Let's Glow Crazy"! Join your fellow Junior School parents on Tuesday, March 10, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Manrell Hall for your chance to dance and get your "glow up"! Tickets are $30 per attendee (adult and child). Click here to purchase your tickets by Friday, February 20.

Able to lend a hand? We need parent volunteers to grab a short shift and help with the fun on the afternoon and evening of the dance. Please sign up here.

CHS Community Book Club

Parents and alumnae are invited to our CHS Community Book Club, where we will be discussing the novel The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. This story follows 73-year-old Sybil Van Antwerp as she reflects on her life, relationships, regrets, and the power of connection through the letters and written exchanges that force her to confront past wounds and seek forgiveness. We will meet on Wednesday, March 4, at 9:30 am in the Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge. Light refreshments will be served. Drop-ins are always welcome, or please RSVP here.
