What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - April.

We are really excited to be taking part in the first ever Greenway Festival hosted by Connect Cromwell on Sunday the 14th of April at Anderson Park. This event will be a day out for everyone and offers entertainment, activities, food, drink and old fashioned gala day fun. Local groups have been invited to showcase their achievements and demonstrate how they contribute to the Cromwell community. We will be highlighting our recent edition of the Arts Trail booklet and will be ready to chat to artists or art groups who would like to learn more about the Central Otago District Arts Trust. There's an impressive abundance of exhibitions on in the region this month. Eade Gallery is currently showing a joint exhibition of works by Kathi McLean and Judy Smith. Kathi's show, 'Realignment – Four Years On,' displays a selection of her raku and pit fired ceramic pieces. Jude Smith's, 'Around and About in Alexandra,' is a collection of paintings inspired by time spent on her family orchard in Earnscleugh. Showing at Hullabaloo Art Space is
an exhibition of fine art photographs by Alexandra artist Eric Schusser. The exhibition, 'Their Roots Rest in Infinity,' is an exploration of the beauty and diversity of trees in and around the Central Otago region. The Central Otago Art Society will be once again host their popular Cash and Carry Exhibition at the Dunstan Lodge over the Easter break. Much gratitude to the Henderson House Trust who continue to invite reknowned New Zealand artists into their residency programme. This residency enables accomplished New Zealand artists to stay in the Ernst Plischke house and experience Central Otago and environs at their leisure - often inspiring and informing their art works. It also means that on occassion, Central Otago people get the chance to explore these visual, literary and musical impressions. Later on in the month Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery will present 'The Wading Birds of Drybread'- works by Gregory O'Brien. This exhibition will showcase paintings developed during his 12-month residency at Henderson House in Alexandra. Gregory will be giving an informal floor talk at Central Stories on the 18th of May. Toward the end of April an exciting exhibition of original screenprints created by Dick Frizzell, one of New Zealand's leading contemporary artists
and current artist in residence at Henderson House, will open at Octa Gallery and Workshop in the Heritage Precinct in Cromwell. Later on in the year Dick Frizzell will exhibit at Milford Galleries in Dunedin - many of these paintings will reference his time spent in Alexandra. Coming up in early May is the Dunedin Readers and Writers Festival. The 2019 programme features a mass of national and international talents and is well worth
exploring - don't miss out! Scroll down for more of 'What's On' in the arts in Central Otago.
