Online Workshops in Convenience Depot Planning

Applicable for communities that have curbside blue box collection service for their residents with convenience depots as an added blue box service

About the Workshop

Convenience depots are known as locations where blue box material can be dropped off by residents who already receive curbside household collection

According to the RPRA website, as of 2026, producers are no longer required to maintain and fund blue box collection at convenience depots within communities where residents receive household curbside collection. Should this funding be discontinued, communities will need to decide whether to continue, modify or end blue box collection at their convenience depots.

The workshop will help you identify, research, and analyze your individual community options to address these potential changes and prepare council for decision making.

This workshop may not apply directly to First Nation communities, but all are welcome to join!

Objectives

  • Understand the full costs and impacts to operate the blue box portion of your depots
  • Identify and explore your available options if the PROs are interested or not interested in funding your convenience depots after transition

Format

  • Facilitator led walk-through of a tool set (decision tree, cost spreadsheet, P&E plan, procurement plan, Council report outline) to assist communities in making an informed decision to either retain, modify or divest the blue box portion of their depots
  • Group discussion

Logistics

The workshop is 3 hours in total and you must participate in the entire session. There are three delivery options available for you to choose from and they are shown below in the registration session.

  • Exclusive for community and local service board staff
  • Each workshop is limited to 25 participants
  • Additional workshops may be offered, based on demand
