A note from Pieter as he steps into retirement
After 25+ years in the PTE sector, I’m retiring to spend more time with whānau and with a baritone ukulele. Since helping a PTE achieve registration at the turn of the century, I’ve become obsessed with supporting PTEs to assure their own quality and meet the needs of key stakeholders, including NZQA.
This learning has been shaped by the hundreds of PTE people who’ve attended my workshops since 2011, mostly covering Self-Assessment for EER, Achieving Excellence in Pastoral Care, and Preparing for a Consistency Review.
Like many of us, my appreciation of vocational training has continued to grow over the years. And the role really has been a vocation, not a job.
Luckily, we’ve found someone new and fresh who will be joining QED, and our application to NZQA is underway. We’ll be announcing them soon, with the takeover planned for the 1st of January (when ISBs replace WDCs, which replaced ITOs!). I’m highly confident you’ll be delighted to know who it is, given their excellent experience and skill set.
Many thanks to my favourite PTE directors, creative CEOs, mindful academic managers, administration geniuses, top tutors, methodical assessors, and thorough moderators, you who you are!
Ngā mihi nui ki a koe.
A note from the QED Co-Directors
It has been a pleasure working with Pieter. His expertise, clarity, and quietly steady leadership have been invaluable to QED and to our clients. We’re grateful for everything he has contributed and wish him all the best for a very well-deserved retirement.
QED External Moderation Results
A Strong Endorsement of Quality
We’re pleased to share that QED Associates has once again received excellent results from our most recent round of external post-assessment moderation. The four unit standards submitted were confirmed as meeting the National Standard, with moderators commending the strength, clarity, and reliability of our assessment practices.
Moderators highlighted the quality of our assessor judgements, the sufficiency and relevance of learner evidence, and the clear, constructive feedback provided to learners. They also noted the professionalism shown through well-structured marking schedules, strong alignment to unit standard requirements, and the authentic, industry-relevant evidence gathered across a wide range of contexts. This is a great reflection of the care and consistency our team puts into maintaining high-quality assessment and moderation systems.
A small number of recommendations were made, centred on refining documentation and strengthening some of our internal processes as we prepare for the transition to the new Community and Health ISB in 2026. These recommendations align with our existing quality improvement plans and provide helpful direction for further streamlining our assessment resources.
Overall, we are proud of these results and grateful to our assessors and moderators who continue to uphold the high standards QED is known for. We remain committed to high-quality, fair, and transparent assessment practices that support learner success and sector confidence.
Congratulations to ...
It’s great to hear about the success our clients have achieved with the support of our team. We’re proud to have played a role in helping them reach their goals.
Congratulations to:

We would also like to acknowledge a longstanding client who, through their own hard work and internal dedication, have successfully gained PTE registration. Although QED did not assist with their application, we are delighted to celebrate their achievement. Well done, Traffic Management Academy.

With plenty of nearby parking, the venue is easy to reach just off Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway, and there are several cafés and lunch bars close by for convenient lunch options.
