Welcome to the LBP newsletter

Kia ora

Welcome to another edition of the LBP newsletter for 2025.

It’s hard to believe how quickly this year is going with daylight savings already coming to an end. I hope you’re enjoying the lighter mornings.

In this newsletter, we have highlighted some key changes and updates in the building system that you should be aware of. This includes upcoming licensing changes, a self-certification announcement and an update on building consents for small standalone dwellings.

We have also highlighted some recent complaint decisions made by the Board. I encourage you to have a read of these and take note of the lessons we can learn from them.

This month we have also launched our LBP consumer awareness campaign. This campaign aims to improve consumer awareness of LBPs and when they should use one.

You can see the campaign video and landing page on our website here.

You may see the campaign live through Facebook, Instagram, TV on demand and google searches.

Take care, work safely, and thank you for taking the time to read this edition of the newsletter.

Recent determinations

Determinations are legally binding decisions made by MBIE. They are for matters of doubt or dispute to do with building work outlined in the Building Act and the Building Code. This month, we're highlighting a determination considering an authority’s refusal to issue a code compliance certificate due to outstanding producer statement documentation.
