Host an event to help raise awareness

There are countless events and activities you could hold for QMHW, so we absolutely encourage you to participate in a way that is meaningful and achievable for you and your communities. Below are a few quick ideas.

Individuals, community groups and clubs

  • Organise a board games or trivia night with your friends
  • Get people together to create something new, with an art or craft workshop or a cooking class
  • Chalk art can be used to decorate places where drawing is allowed in the community. Inspiring messages can be left for others to see as they pass by!
  • Consider how you can make communities and activities that you are involved in more welcoming, open or easier to access for those experiencing difficulty with their mental health and wellbeing

Schools:

Workplaces

  • Organise a morning tea or lunch and learn session
  • Utilise mental health related check-in prompts during a toolbox talk
  • End all meetings for the week with 'proud and thankfuls' where each person nominates one person they are thankful for, and why. You may be surprised what a difference this can make to teamwork and connection!
  • Host a 'Bring your pet to work day' event
  • Gather your colleagues and support one of the many public community-led events

Below are a few tips for organising an event. Download our Event Starter Kit for a full checklist, more event ideas and brainstorming prompts, plus promotional tips.

***NEW*** School resources

To help ensure teachers have the right materials to suit the needs of children in their classroom we have partnered with Twinkl to create a suite of free resources.

The hope is that these resources will open up discussions about mental health and help children learn how to express their feelings and act on those emotions in a positive way, seeking support when needed. View the resources here.
