Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant update

Friday 27 March

What to expect this weekend

As we head into the weekend, pond health remains stable, with no changes to the current odour status.

Monitoring shows algae levels continue to improve, supporting healthy biological activity in the ponds. The forecast wind over the coming days is also helpful, as it naturally assists with oxygenating the ponds and maintaining stable conditions.

We’re aware of the weather system moving through and our operations team will closely monitor this throughout the weekend. We always have staff onsite ready to make any adjustments if conditions change.

Our hydrogen sulphide monitoring continues to show only low levels of odour, which is a positive sign.

Overall, we don’t expect any significant odour issues this weekend. As always, we do want to reiterate the seasonal caution as we move toward winter – changing temperatures and conditions can still lead to occasional odour spikes.
