Wishing all our clients, collaborators, colleagues, and friends the very best for the holiday season. Below are some highlights from the past 12 months and a glimpse of what lies ahead.

2024 saw a major international arts win with our proposal to expand S.M.A.K. in Ghent in collaboration with NoAarchitecten and Asli Ciçek, covered in detail by Arquitectura Viva. The €90M project builds on our 2018 win to design a new campus for the University of Hasselt in collaboration with Bovenbouw, which is under construction and due to complete summer 2025. For the 2024 Belgian edition of Architects’ Journal, David spoke to Ellis Woodman about our experience of working in the country.

Planning approval for Smithfield Markets in Birmingham was achieved earlier this year. Designed in collaboration with artist multiverse Eastside Projects, the market halls form the centrepiece of a £1.9 billion mixed-use quarter for Birmingham City Council and Lendlease. The Architects' Journal covered the story and work on the next stages is expected to continue in 2025.

New York arts publications, Family Style and Plus Magazine carried stories about our collaborations with artists and galleries whilst Wallpaper*'s Ellie Stathaki described our Stephen Friedman Gallery expansion as “infused with subtly playful elegance”. In November Modern Art Oxford reopened after a £2m refurbishment (above), which is due to be published in the new year whilst with artist David Shrigley started on the design of his new studio in Brighton.

Clients in two houses on a converted dairy farm in Devon told their stories to The Guardian and House & Garden. In London, we completed a house on top of an office building with panoramic view for developer Crispin Kelly, which is due to be published in 2025. We also gained planning permission for a new-build home for fashion designer Jonathan Anderson which will start on site summer 2025.
