Item 1: July-August 2021 nKPI, OSR and HCP Reporting Outcomes

The reporting round for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander National Key Performance Indicators (nKPI), Online Service Report (OSR), and the Health Care Provider (HCP) number reports was non-mandatory in acknowledgement of COVID-19 pandemic impacts on health services.

This is the last time a reporting round will be non-mandatory.

Despite the non-mandatory status, out of 255 health services:

  • 15 health services advised they would not report
  • 233 health services submitted reports
  • Northern Territory submitted the highest number of reports

This is a fantastic result. Over 90% of reports were submitted. Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit their data, this is a great indication of the value placed by health services on reporting.

This high reporting rate is consistent with July 2021's result, there were over 90% of reports submitted at that time, which was also non-mandatory.

Your submitted data is now available for you through the Qlik interactive reports.

Item 2: Published Reports

Your Qlik interactive reports provide the most up-to-date source of your submitted nKPI data (and, in the future, your OSR data), as well as comparison data for national, state, service size, remoteness etc averages. These reports are available continuously and have replaced the point-in-time PDF reports you used to receive from the AIHW.

If you have the Published Report Viewer role for your organisation, you can also access and download your nKPI Summary Report (PowerPoint) and an nKPI Executive Summary Report (Excel) through the Qlik Published Reports. These reports are regenerated each week, so you always have access to published reports with the most up-to-date information available, and have replaced the PowerPoint pack you used to receive from the AIHW. Please note that when the templates for these reports need to be changed to reflect nKPI updates, weekly publishing is briefly paused until the new version is available.

A step by step guide to accessing your Published Reports is available through the User Support link.

If you do not have the Published Report Viewer role, please reach out to your organisation's HDP User Administrator, or send an email request to indigenousreporting@health.gov.au.

Item 3: Australian Immunisation Register COVID Vaccination App

We are pleased to inform you that all reporting health services, NACCHO and Affiliates now have access to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) COVID-19 vaccination data Qlik application. This access is through the same Health Data Portal (HDP) log in used for the nKPI Qlik application. Once logged into the HDP, there will now be an additional option for immunisation data once you are in the Qlik opening screen.

This application provides access to COVID vaccination data that can be disaggregated by age, sex, location (state, postcode, Statistical Area SA3), first/second doses, type of vaccine, and the time interval between doses. The data is updated daily. Providing access to this type of data supports Priority Reform 4 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap "Shared Access to Data and Information at a Regional Level".

The Department is working on tutorials to help navigate the immunisation pages. If you are interested in training, please email us at indigenousreporting@health.gov.au.

The Qlik COVID application is provided to the sector for internal planning and continuous quality improvement purposes only. Any data or extracts from the Qlik app are not to be made publicly available. Should you have any questions about the COVID application or the data loaded on it please contact indigenousreporting@health.gov.au.

Item 4: Health Data Portal - Continuous Improvement

The HDP features continue to evolve as feedback from services is implemented. The following features have either been implemented or will be available in time for reporting in January 2022:

  • nKPI updates to PI12, PI18 and PI19, plus the retirement of PI15. More details will be provided about these changes in the November e-Newsletter.
  • The technical specifications for the nKPIs are regularly updated to reflect nKPI changes.
  • Data validation scorecards are available at NPS MedicineWise.
  • OSR reports will feature pre-population of many of the new data items you completed for the first time in the 2021 OSR. This means that next time you will only need to check that they are still correct, instead of re-entering them.
  • New features for Qlik interactive reports include:
    1. Executive Summary Sheet, showing your results for all indicators over the past three reporting periods, along with key comparison data (this is similar to the Executive Summary Excel published report)
    2. Closing the Gap (CtG) Target #2 Sheet, showing progress against the CtG 2031 target for healthy birthweight
    3. the first OSR report in Qlik, showing your Episode of Care and Client Numbers over time (which are key inputs into the IAHP Funding Model).

Item 5: Health Data Portal User Support

If you would like training on how to:
