Letters of Intent: Grants and Contracts Requirements

Many grant applications require a Letter of Intent (LOI) before the “full” application.

When a LOI requires an institutional (or authorized organizational representative) signature, the Grants and Contracts Office (GCO) should be notified in advance and the document requiring signature must be routed to GCO 3 business days prior to the sponsor deadline to ensure adequate review.

An LOI that does not require institutional signature can be submitted direct to the sponsor without prior review by GCO.

Reach out to Lynn Cummings, Grants Operations Coordinator, for assistance with your LOI!

Financial Conflicts of Interest in Research (FCOI-R)

MCW Corporate Policy RS.GN.020 Financial Conflicts of Interest in Research is one of several corporate policies that together make up MCW’s oversight of conflicts of interest. The purpose is to ensure that there is no reasonable expectation that the design, conduct or report of research funded by a Covered Award will be biased by any conflicting financial interest of the Covered Person.

Information on training and reporting requirements can be found here: Financial Conflicts of Interest in Research (FCOI-R) (mcw.edu)

If you have questions, or for more information, please contact the Alicia Martin, Manager, Research and Academic Compliance. Research Compliance Office:

A Lunch and Learn on the Research Compliance FCOI-R Review Process for Human Subjects Research will be offered on Tuesday, June 25, 12-1 pm. Register here.
