A Message from the Acting Principal
School Improvement Agenda
Newman College is a vibrant learning hub, brimming with opportunities for students and staff. At its core, the College is dedicated to continually enhancing student outcomes. This commitment is exemplified through an intentional school improvement agenda, passionately pursued by the College Executive Team and teaching staff.
Utilising the Australian Council for Education Research: School Improvement Tool (SIT), the College prides itself on having a continuous cycle of improvement, utilising evidence-based research that describes the practices of highly effective schools and school leaders, focusing on:
• improving the quality of teaching and learning
• creating cultures of high expectations
• providing clarity about what teachers are to teach and what students are to learn
• establishing strong professional learning communities
• leading ongoing school-wide efforts to improve teaching practices.
The SIT supports school-wide conversations with families, school governing bodies, local communities, and students about current practice aspects, areas for improvement, and evidence that progress is being made. Importantly, the school improvement agenda is focused on enhancing student outcomes, guided by a concrete plan tailored to the unique needs of Newman College. We are not just shooting in the dark; the agenda is grounded in evidence-based research and analysis of school data and expressed in terms of improvements in measurable student outcomes, focused on long-term sustainable solutions rather than quick fixes.
By driving an explicit school improvement agenda, Newman College demonstrates its steadfast dedication to nurturing a future where every student can achieve excellence, thus paving the way for brighter futures for generations of Newman College students to come.
Capital Development Project - Update
Work is well under way on the major Capital Development Program that will deliver brand-new learning facilities for our PK-Y6 students. This project will see the consolidation of all year groups onto our Churchlands site of the first time.
Term 1 saw the completion of the new Lavalla Administration building, with staff moving in in March. Currently, the Year 3-6 Building is nearing completion and is on track to be opened mid-May in Term 2. Building has also commenced on the Pre-Kindy to Pre Primary buildings.
We expect to unite all students onto our single Churchlands site for Term 2, 2025.
The integration of the primary campuses onto a single site will allow for greater access to the College’s considerable facilities, including the heated 50m Olympic size swimming pool, 600 seat auditorium, featuring dance studios and instrumental rehearsal spaces, as well as multiple playing fields. Furthermore, the single site will allow for the consistent involvement of teacher leaders throughout the Pre-Kindy to Year 12 community.
