What's On August 2013

“Buds are bursting, the sky is so blue, the birds are chirping with so much to do. There’s a spring in my step and a twinkle in my eye and a smile on my dial, it's so good to be alive! “
I feel somehow that we have cheated winter - is this global warming? I’m not complaining mind you, but this winter has been unusual, and overall our seasons seem to be in a constant state of flux. I can’t help mentioning the weather at the start of my monthly chat. It's something we can all relate to.
There have been plenty of extraordinary events on in Central lately. The Central Otago Dance Development group held a very successful three day workshop in the July school holidays. Young people from all over the region received a fantastic dance experience from quality tutors, and the hard working organisers should feel justly proud for pulling it together.
I went to Hullabaloo’s group show which will only be on view for an another days. It is always inspiring and impressive to see the calibre of work on display from this Old Cromwell artists’ collective. Gail de Jong's solo exhbition opens there on Sunday.
At Central Stories Museum this Sunday at 1pm, Grahame Sydney will present and speak on his exhibition of photographic works entitled ''Winter Images''. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear one of News Zealand’s best known artists talking about his favourite subject, Central Otago.
On behalf of the Central Otago District Arts Trustees I would like to invite you to our Annual General Meeting which will be held at 5.30pm in Meeting Room A in the Alexandra Community House on Thursday 22nd August. You are welcome to join us for a drink, some nibbles, and a chat about the arts.
Check out what’s on around the region and I’m sure something will take your fancy.
