"Having an arena where the fans can be comfortable and support us will be awesome.

We’ll get more fans in the seats and they’ll want to stay and talk to us after the game.

A stadium enclosed with a roof will also mean we’ll be able to play a higher quality game of rugby."

- Jack Goodhue, Canterbury Crusaders and All Blacks player

CMUA estimated construction timeframes indicated

Construction of the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena (CMUA) is estimated to be completed in mid-2025. An update provided to Christchurch City Councillors indicated the CMUA’s design and construction phase could be completed at the end of Quarter 2, 2025.

CMUA Project Delivery Board Chair, Barry Bragg, says additional planning work has been required to expand the CMUA from 25,000 to 30,000 seating capacity.

Past project I’m most proud of: was being involved in the design and construction of the former Lancaster Park stadium. Most recently I was involved in the superb rescue and restoration of the Christchurch Town Hall; a wonderful, cost-effective outcome for our city.

What I’m most looking forward to: Seeing how people engage with the CMUA and each other while they enjoy the events. A big covered room in the central city that’s capable of finally hosting significant outdoor events will be a game-changer for the city and region.
