Construction company Naylor Love showed the group of around 25 around the site of the new facility. Once completed, the 4000 square metre centre will include a library, creative activities room, a lane pool, a hydrotherapy pool, a learn-to-swim pool, a toddlers’ wet play area, a spa pool and a customer services zone. ![]() Progress update - piling completeLast week the 184th steel pile was driven into the ground, cut down to size and fitted with weld plates, marking a milestone for the construction of the Hornby Centre. Piling is now complete across the entire facility, including the 27 piles needed for the hydrotherapy pool. Pictured above, on the left, the main pool area is shown, with piles completed and gas-proof membrane installed. Help us plan the activities, programmes and events on offer at the Hornby CentreThe Council is opening two new centres towards the end of 2023. Parakiore will be Aotearoa-New Zealand’s biggest sport and recreation centre, including pools, hydro-slides, indoor courts and more. The Hornby Centre will be a combined recreation and sport centre, library and service centre. We’re now planning how to bring these spaces to life and what activities, programmes and events we’ll offer. Help us plan by filling in the survey. It should only take around 5-10 minutes to have your say. The survey will help us understand what people want from our recreation and sports centres – our two new centres and our existing centres. It’s a chance for you to have a say on the activities and programmes we offer and to suggest new ideas for us to consider. Have your say before Sunday 31 July and leave your email address at the end of the survey and be in to win one of 10 double passes to He Puna Taimoana: New Brighton Hot Pools.
