Our lead story this month is Professor Mark Halsey’s sensational success in the ARC Industry Fellowship Program. Mark is one of just 8 recipients in Australia and the only one in South Australia. The prestigious award entails funding of $3.5 million to build on pilot work to help fundamentally change the way prisoners are rehabilitated. It brings huge credit and recognition for both our Criminology program and our Centre for Social Impact Flinders. Congratulations Mark! Other stories include a Vice Chancellor’s Award for Doctoral Thesis Excellence for Dr Mohammed Akhib; an update from Professor Chris Kee on our new approach on Student Engagement; Professor Svetlana Bogomolova's participation in the UN Climate Technology Centre and Network Advisory in Copenhagen (our lead photo); two new PhD completions, including our own Dr Jennifer Richards; 6 new A/A* publications, and more than $300,000 of new research income. Dr Jung Yoon for her PhD titled “A person-centred organisational management model for enabling meaningful socio-economic engagement for people with cognitive disability.” Jung was supervised by Professor Ian Goodwin-Smith (Principal Supervisor), Associate Professor Selina Tually and Dr Ashokkumar Manoharan (Associate Supervisors) and Dr Karen Williams (External Supervisor - UniSA). Vice Chancellor’s Award for Doctoral Thesis Excellence Congratulations to Dr Mohammed Akhib who has been awarded a 2023 Vice Chancellor’s Award for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. Mohammed’s thesis was titled “Exploring the Consumer Perceived Veracity of Traditional Media vs Social Media Reports in an Organisational Crisis Context” and he received A/A in his examination. UN Climate Technology Centre and Network Advisory Board Meeting in Copenhagen Professor Svetlana Bogomolova, CSI Flinders Deputy Director, took part in the United Nations Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) Advisory Board on April 22-24, 2024, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Gather Round 2024 The recent Gather Round event, a collaborative effort between the South Australian Government, SiSU Health, The Shane Warne Legacy, and Flinders University, aimed to provide free heart and diabetes checks to attendees from April 4 to April 7. APACH’s Inaugural International Policy Forum Flinders University’s College of Business, Government and Law are hosting the Asia Pacific Aged Care Hub (APACH) First International Policy Forum in May, involving 7 countries to further promote Innovations in Health and Aged Care Knowledge Transfer. The same Flinders research group is also involved in DFAT-supported aged and health care outreach and knowledge exchange in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
