CELEBRATE THE AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE OF 'THE INVENTOR'

It is not often that we beat the bigger festivals to get an Australian Premiere but that’s what we’ve done with The Inventor, an animated fantasy celebrating Leonardo da Vinci’s amazing innovations and eventful life. Created by Oscar nominee, Jim Capobianco, best known for Ratatouille and The Lion King, the stop-motion animation movie celebrates Leonardo as he works to invent a flying machine, study the human body and discover the meaning of life.

10.30am at Village Cinemas on Sunday 3 September is the perfect spot for kids, adults, families, animators and invention nuts to celebrate Leonardo and BOFA’s good fortune.

CELEBRATE TAMAR VALLEY’S REGIONAL DISHES

How discerning is your palate? Well, here’s the chance to find out. As part of Launceston’s new title as a Creative City of Gastronomy, we need to decide on what is the best regional specialty dish from the fertile Tamar Valley. So, on Saturday 2nd September, award-winning Grain of the Silos restaurant will ask you to treat yourself and then select what YOU think is the regional specialty. Is it wild-shot venison, juniper, rosemary, celeriac and pickled mushroom; or is it truffled lamb rump, garlic yoghurt and potato terrine; or maybe Tassie apple strudel with Anvers dark chocolate mousse, hazelnut and parsnip sponge. You be the Master Chef judge!

CELEBRATE 14 YEARS OF BOFA

BOFA was begun 14 years ago by Helen and Owen Tilbury, Sue and Tony Walker and Trish Lake with a mantra to entertain, connect and inspire through film. At that time there was no film festival in Tasmania.

With film themes such as 'Stories of Us', 'Climate Action', 'The Choices We Make' and 'We Are Who We Are', BOFA has inspired changes in the community, given a safe place for new ideas and been the first Australian film festival to go online - and free - during Covid.

The Tilburys feel that after BOFA 2023 is the right time to hand over the reins, celebrating all the fun, the creativity and the friendships that BOFA has offered them and so many others.  Come join them and celebrate!

THANK YOU

Tasmania was the only state in Australia not to have an official state film festival until the Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival was started in 2010. Now, 14 years later, we’ve all been through some “interesting” times. Covid hit festivals hard, cost of living inflation is squeezing everyone, venue, travel and production costs have seen sharp increases. Financial support is overstretched and BOFA has to share a diminishing pot of funds with many others.

If you could help us keep inspiring positive change with great films, even a small donation would help. Donate here.

And to those who have already shown their support, thank you.
