December 2022 Newsletter

Dear Friend,

Merry Christmas! I pray that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. Being able to spend time with many of you at DBU Homecoming, Cookies and Cocoa, Christmas Tree Lighting and the Ruth Awards Christmas Luncheon was such a joy for me. Each of you play an integral part in furthering the mission of Dallas Baptist University, and I loved celebrating Dr. Norma Hedin, Frankie Horn and Kimm Wright alongside you all.

This December, may we be reminded of the true reason for every season. Praise the Lord for the birth of our Savior! Isaiah 9:6 reads: "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

I am praying that we will proclaim the Name that is above every name, our Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. I look forward to seeing you all on University Hill during this holiday season - DBU at Christmas time is one of my favorite places to be!

This year we want each of you to consider how you can pray, serve, and give supporting DBU through the Women's Auxiliary Board. Here are some practical ways to become involved this fall:

DBU All-University Prayer Requests

Pray for international students who are dealing with homesickness and will not be able to go home during the Christmas break.

Pray for graduating seniors as they transition into the real world and leave behind the strong community they have built at DBU. Pray for December graduates still trying to find jobs that God would open doors to meaningful careers.

Pray for our athletes who have had to miss classes due to traveling in November for NCAA tournaments. Pray that God gives graduating athletes direction as they leave behind their teammates and the sport they love.

Pray that God will give DBU’s adult students clarity, endurance, and financial support as they juggle big responsibilities with children, full-time jobs, and school.

Ask God to give our Ph.D. and Ed.D. students wisdom to pinpoint their dissertation topics. Please ask God to allow them to use their doctoral degrees to be leaders who humbly serve God and positively change the world

FLOW (Free Lunch on Wednesdays) - Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 12:00-1:00 PM, the Women's Auxiliary Board has the privilege of serving lunch to DBU students in partnership with the Baptist Student Ministry. Please email Katy Taylor (katy@dbu.edu), if you would like to join us as we spend time with and serve our DBU students!

Blanket and Coat Drive - Let's clean out our closets and provide new and gently used coats and blankets for students in need. Particularly when students move from other countries to come to college, they cannot fit a bulky coat or blanket in their luggage. These items will be essential in the coming winter. Stash a Bible verse or prayer in the pocket and bless DBU students with the warmth of a coat or blanket this season. Bring your donations any time you are on campus or just stop by. Our office is in the Pilgrim Chapel, Suite 203!
Scholarships are always a great way to support DBU. Students are transformed personally from receiving a Christ-centered higher education at DBU but need a little help financially. To contribute, go to www.dbu.edu/give. Choose "Student Scholarships." You may also send a check in the mail to Dallas Baptist University, 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Women's Auxiliary Board provides and serves lunch twice per year at the Baptist Student Ministry FLOW (Free Lunch On Wednesdays) Day for DBU students with an emphasis on international students. Please email katy@dbu.edu, if interested in serving!
