From the Mayor

This week I wrote to the NSW Planning Minister Paul Scully regarding owners of heritage properties located in the transport oriented development zones of Gordon, Killara, Lindfield and Roseville.

The issue facing some owners is that their properties potentially face being surrounded by new taller buildings.

We are seeking a cooperative approach with the NSW Department of Planning to facilitate a process whereby some of these heritage properties can have their classification reconsidered. This would be on a case by case basis. I will keep you updated on this issue.

I was thrilled to see our new Native Planting Guide go live last week, which will help us all grow beautiful, more sustainable native gardens and habitat for local wildlife. Simply enter your address into our map, select your property and discover what soil type you’re dealing with and the best plants for your garden. Check it out here.

I’m also pleased to announce that the new and improved Lorraine Taylor Playground is now open to the public. Previously known as Athena Avenue Reserve, we have renamed the reserve to honour local volunteer and community stalwart Lorraine Taylor, who passed away in 2015. The new playground has an accessible carousel, swings and multi-functional play equipment, while parents can enjoy a moment of peace in the relaxing landscaped grounds.

Have a great weekend!

Mayor Christine Kay
