HDR in Focus

 

This month's newsletter we highlight the 2022 Best HDR Student Research Publication  winners. This annual programme demonstrates Flinders University's commitment to high quality research dissemination and gives students an opportunity to share their work with the wider community. These students have demonstrated excellence in research, and we applaud all the hard work that went into producing these publications. 
 

BGL PhD candidate, PJ Tan's publication examines the role of catalogues in retail advertising and synthesizes current practices in supermarket catalogues across five countries. Read more >

HASS PhD candidate, Kari Vallury's article explores her experience of her doctoral research going ‘viral’ during recruitment for a national survey on abortion stigma, which resulted in over 65,000 responses in just a few days.  Read more >

 

MPH PhD candidate, Thomas Altree's publication explores the repurposing of a depression medication, reboxetine, for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea.  Read more >

 

MPH PhD candidate, Natansh Modi's publication explores the eligibility of independent, qualified researchers to access individual participant data from oncology trials that supported US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of new anticancer medicines within the past 10 years. Read more >

 

NHS PhD candidate, Andi Agbejule's publication explores the effectiveness of self-management support interventions on improving cancer-related fatigue and other related behavioural outcomes. Read more >

FLINDERS UNIVERSITY 3MT COMPETITION

Flinders University PhD students who have passed their confirmation of candidature (by the University Finals in September) are invited to compete in the 2023 3MT Competition. In the 3MT competition, competitors progress through heats, the semi-final, the University final, and then the Asia-Pacific 3MT Competition, held virtually in Brisbane in October 2023.  We are returning to a live presentation format this year, so this is your chance to connect with your peers, develop your presentations skills and win some prize money. Register by Thursday 15 June! Read more >

 

HDR CONNECT

The HDR Connect Microsoft Teams site has been updated to include extra channels. You can now easily access discussion groups, writing groups and support channels through the HDR Connect Space. Get connected here >

  • WriteBunch – a daily writing group connecting student across all disciplines and locations. Get together with other students every day from 10-11am for a silent writing group
  •  Thesis Writing Discussion Group – a monthly discussion group bringing students together to discuss their thesis progress. Check out the Thesis Writing Discussion channel for more details.
  • Welcome to new students – a channel dedicated to new students starting at Flinders University. Drop in, say hello, introduce yourself and your research and connect with your cohort. Check out the Welcome to new students channel for more details.
 

NOMINATE YOUR HDR SUPERVISOR

Nominations are now open for the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in HDR Supervision. This award recognises outstanding achievement across the various elements of supervision. If you have an outstanding HDR supervisor, please submit your nomination by Friday 9 June 2023. Read more >

 

WELLBEING WEEK - 8-12 MAY

University life can be rewarding, but also challenging when balancing study with other commitments. Wellbeing Week will provide you with tools and information to help you manage your wellbeing while at uni. You’ll also get to know the services available at Flinders to support your physical and mental health. BE WELL PLAN TASTER SESSION - 9 MAY

As part of Wellbeing Week, there is a session of the Be Well Plan on Tuesday 9 May from 6pm-7.15pm via Teams.  Join Gareth Furber from Health, Counselling and Disability Services to learn what the term ‘mental health’ actually means and some of the psychological tools you can use to build and maintain mental health.  The Taster session will help you determine if you’d like to commit the time for the full program.
