Artificial intelligence applications are becoming integrated into many aspects of everyday life, from health care to education, and now it’s set to disrupt the adult content industry. With increasingly accessible and sophisticated image and video generating tools, the ability to produce pornographic content will become widespread.
Today in The Conversation Canada, Valerie LaPointe at Université du Québec à Montréal and Simon Dubé at Indiana University write about the potential impacts of AI porn on the adult content industry and on society. These range from the ability to produce highly customized viewing material to therapeutic and educational applications, but they also include the potential negative consequences for sexual desire and intimacy.
“History and current technological trends both indicate that the next stage of erotica production will be more sophisticated and involved,” write LaPointe and Dubé. They add that “more research is also needed to understand the influence of this technology and guide its development.”
