Youth Arts Central Otago What's On - Aug & Sept

Fractures of Colour by Jack Wyeth, Mount Aspiring College. Top Art Exhibition
2025. Big Love Thanks to all you amazing folk for supporting this work. There are heaps of great events coming up, a total of 19 in August alone! Be sure to expand this email at the bottom to view them all. Cromwell College has two events that they’d love the community to embrace, their annual Performing Arts Soirée and an art exhibition where students sell their work. Last year they collectively sold one hundred artworks and generated almost $4,000 in sales. Dunstan High School will be rocking 1950’s style by performing the classic musical Grease later this month. Now’s a great time to purchase tickets. CREATE: Make a Zine! A zine, short for fanzine or magazine, is a DIY subculture self-publication, usually made on paper and reproduced with a photocopier or printer. They can be quick and fun to make using materials you can find at home. Watch the Tate Kids clip to help you get started. COLLABORATE: Don’t Florry, be Happy. There’s plenty of competitions being offered in August and September. If you’re feeling super
creative fill out an entry form and create your own Florrey (a miniature float designed around a New World shopping trolley) to be a part of the Alexandra Blossom Festival Grand Procession. EXHIBIT: Entries open now! Artists aged 16+ are encouraged to enter The Central Otago Art Society Exhibition, which is an annual event featuring works on show and for sale across a range of disciplines by artists throughout Central Otago and the South Island. This years judge is Julie Greig. WATCH: Bring a Smile to your Dial Enjoy this feel-good short film aptly named ‘Duct Tape and Dreams’ about some wonderfully creative and clever artists who built epic vehicles for the McLaren Park Soapbox Derby. If you don’t have much time start 12 minutes in for the chaotic and lively event action. READ: Best of NZ The contenders for the NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults have been announced. Read about them here and find your next good read. LISTEN: On The Record Play It Strange are stoked to announce On the Record with Rei, a podcast for musicians and artists in Aotearoa!
Hosted by award-winning artist and Play It Strange alumni Rei, he goes on the record with artists, producers, and industry insiders to provide a digital backstage pass to breaking into the music industry. The 10-episode season can be found on Spotify, Youtube and rova. SEE: Be Inspired by Excellence It’s only once a year we get the opportunity to lay our eyes on the top NCEA level 3 student visual art boards in the country. This year the Top Art exhibition is being shown in Cromwell. Don’t miss it! SHARE: Be an Inspiration If you’ve created or achieved something you’re proud of we’d love to feature it in our coming newsletters or Facebook page. Send a photo, file, or short clip to the email at the bottom of this page with your name and a title. Creativity is contagious! Ngā mihi,
Isabel (Central Otago Arts)
