We're currently drafting our Community Board Plan which outlines our vision and priorities for the Banks Peninsula community. Our focus is to enhance environmental, cultural, social and economic well-being so that the Peninsula is a vibrant and reviving place to live, work and visit. We'd love to have your feedback on this. Action stations – new fitness site for Little RiverTe Pātaka o Rākaihautū – Banks Peninsula Community Board approved the installation Prepare of five new fitness stations in Awa-iti Domain. The new apparatus, which allows for a range of fitness activities, will be in place by February. Our top 10 tips to help you bin rightOver the past week we’ve had some great questions come in about what you can put in your yellow wheelie bin. To help you bin good, we’ve put together a list of 10 handy tips. Big Belly bins helping keep Banks Peninsula cleanHigh-tech solar-powered rubbish bins are helping reduce rubbish in high use areas. Six additional Big Belly rubbish bins have recently been placed in high use areas in Akaroa, as well as one outside the Little River café, one at Naval Point, and one at Corsair Bay. Level 4 water restrictions for parts of Banks PeninsulaLevel 4 water restrictions are now in place for Akaroa, Duvauchelle and Takamatua on Banks Peninsula as very dry conditions put pressure on water supplies. Level 4 restrictions are a total hosing ban, meaning people cannot use water outside their homes. The use of hand-held hoses, unattended hoses, sprinklers, and garden irrigation systems is not allowed. Using water to fill pools or paddling pools is also not allowed. Use alternative boat ramps during Generation Homes La Grande SwimHeads up, there will be some closures to boat ramps on Saturday 22 February while the Generation Homes La Grande Swim is taking place in Akaroa. The closures will be: Akaroa Recreation Ground Ramp - Closed from 0600 – 1830 Daly’s Ramp - Closed from 1700 - 1730 Please use Daly’s Ramp (outside of the half hour closure above), Duvauchelle’s Ramp or the Wainui Ramp instead. People can see the work, which in 2006 was voted New Zealand’s greatest painting in a Frontseat poll, at Christchurch Art Gallery until 8 March when five gallery areas upstairs close in preparation for a major new exhibition taking over the top floor.
