END OF THE YEAR CELEBRATION IDEAS!

TOP 10: Have students make their Top 10 list of what they had learned during the school year. (Think David Letterman.) Have them reflect on their best learning experiences during their time with you, and then have a little party so kids can share all of their lists.

WORD CLOUD: Include a question about their greatest memories. Turn the answers into a word cloud and display it on the board during your final class celebration. You can also create your own Top 10 list from the answers.

COMPLIMENTS AND KINDNESS: Have students take turns standing in front of your white board, while others in your group write a positive phrase or characteristic about that person. Once your student is surrounded by positive affirmations, take a picture for a ready-made end of the year gift!

OSCARS: Roll out the red carpet. Have students plan the culminating event. Imagine an Oscars-type ceremony where they can give awards for the year’s best activities, events, student presentations, and most epic classroom moments, and where their classmates can respond with Oscars-style acceptance speeches. They can even dress up!

A MESSAGE TO OUR SENIORS (KALEIGH BELZ, CVFC MEMBER)

Three years ago- I was just like you, counting down the days until graduation, cramming for final exams, worrying about college decisions, worrying about career decisions, talking to my friends about what instagram photo I should post for #seniorsunday, and overall stressing about work, school, life, and the question about what happens after graduation finally arrives.

For me, the big moments of April 2019 were those that were historical, those that were personal, those that were emotional, and even the ones that were stressful.

What did I want? Which program would work best for me? What was I going to study? Which campus did I like the most? Where would I be living? How far from home did I want to be? What loans would I have to take out? What classes would I need to take…

EARN YOUR SCECHS: DIGITAL LEARNING NETWORK

MASSP’s Digital Learning Network (DLN) was launched in 2018 offering professional training and growth for educators at all levels and backgrounds, right from the comfort of their own home or office.  Through a partnership with Michigan Virtual, learners build capacity on a variety of topics to advance their learning and apply relevant and practical information and strategies to their buildings and classrooms. Additionally, many of the DLN courses offer SCECHs toward certificate renewal.

Take a look at some popular DLN courses below:

Student Mental Health 101: Trends, What To Do, & Who Can Help
This course will focus on providing educators with options and strategies working with students with mental health issues.  Through articles, videos, and interactive content, participants will review current statistical trends, identify individuals in the school setting who are equipped to support these students and explain how outside agencies can be part of the solution as well.  Additional training is used to assist participants in how to respond to a student mental health crisis.

Trauma-Informed Schools: A Whole School Approach
This course aims to answer the following questions: What is a trauma-informed approach and how does it impact the classroom?  Through articles, videos, and interactive content, participants will identify key trauma statistics and terminology and compare and contrast proactive vs reactive strategies to support these students in the classroom.  The course will also provide building-level strategies and resources.

A Teacher's Guide to Khan Academy
Khan Academy is a free resource teachers can use to assign lessons and monitor student progress.  With thousands of free lesson resources including questions, videos, quizzes and unit tests, Khan Academy is a great resource for any teacher.  Khan Academy even offers personalized SAT practice for students and allows coaches to monitor Math & ELA SAT skills.  This course features videos, resources and other materials including feedback on assignments in order to get set up and start running with this game changing platform.  Participants will learn from Erin Carlson, an ELA teacher and Khan Academy Student Ambassador from Sandusky Jr/Sr High School.

Disciplinary Literacy for Secondary Leaders
As a secondary administrator or teacher leader, how can you support your teachers in moving toward more inherently motivating, academically rigorous learning experiences?  These courses are designed for leaders looking to increase student motivation and engagement, as well as literacy skills, across all content areas.
