When it comes to entrepreneurship and the state's economy, you can’t stop a Badger.

Entrepreneurship has an essential role in UW–Madison's execution of the Wisconsin Idea. The university fosters research, insight and innovation, and provides a vast web of resources, programs and networks that Badgers can tap into to nurture their ideas. The result is new, innovative businesses and entrepreneurs to grow Wisconsin's economy and beyond:

Exosuits may ease strain on construction industry
As the construction industry workforce ages and faces major shortages to keep pace with demand across the U.S., UW–Madison researchers are examining if exosuits and exoskeletons could help existing workers do more.

Physician training track focuses on serving rural areas
In Wisconsin, only seven percent of physicians have rural practices and studies. With the goal of easing disparities and addressing rural health needs, the UW School of Medicine and Public Health launched the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine, known as WARM, in 2007, with its first graduates entering residencies in 2011.

UW–Madison alumna Tara Yang '13 has taken over the family business—Main Oriental Market—in Green Bay, where shoppers get staple Asian foods and first-rate community service.

With 70 percent of Wisconsin’s residents getting their drinking water from groundwater sources, UW–Madison civil and environmental engineering PhD student Amy Wiersma is committed to addressing groundwater quality issues in communities around the state.

UW–Madison graduate programs are once again ranked among the nation’s best in the 2023-24 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools.”

Dairy Symposium features the Dairy Innovation Hub’s most advanced research from all participating campuses. This event is geared toward an academic audience and anyone looking for a deeper dive into research. This is an in-person opportunity at the Pyle Center in Madison, and recordings will be available after the live event on the Hub’s YouTube channel. Hub events are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required.
