CHS: Inspiring girls to discover and pursue their personal exellence.

Dear Alumnae,

On Friday, March 3, the School celebrated its special annual birthday. More than 120 alumnae joined us on campus throughout the day.

During the school assembly Ena Harrop, Head of the School, recognized Dr. Jessie Gordon for her vision of a school for girls.

Alumnae had the opportunity to visit with students to share stories.

We were also happy to support many alumnae in organizing their reunions.

I have been responsible for the Advancement Department for some time, but this year I had the opportunity to work closely with many alumnae. It was inspiring to learn about decades-long friendships, to work with reunion classes, and to see alumnae flying in from all different corners of the world. On Saturday, I felt honoured to take 21 alumnae from the class of 1968 (amazing turnout from a total graduating class of 38) on a tour of the campus and share the vision of its transformation.

Many of you took the time to send an email of appreciation or to express gratitude to the School for a well-organized event. Thank you. Your words made a huge difference for everyone involved in this event.

I would also like to thank alumnae who supported the Gordon Bursary Fund, established at the bequest of Dr. Jessie Gordon in 1951, and The Woods Endowment Fund. Some of you are considering starting a class fund and once again I am very thankful for your generosity and vision. This year alone we have 36 students receiving financial assistance and through the generosity of the Leggat family, we were able to plant 10 new trees and will continue to address the immediate needs of The Woods.

Celebrating 125 years of educating girls is also making sure that we can continue to offer the opportunity of a Crofton education to as many deserving students as possible while preserving an iconic space like The Woods.

If you played in The Woods and if you believe in girls education please consider supporting one of these two initiatives. Any donation of $20 or more will be eligible for an income tax receipt.

Thank you!

Eleanor (Puckering) Matheson ’47

We are sad to inform you of the passing of Eleanor (Puckering) Matheson ’47, on March 7, 2023. Eleanor attended Crofton in the 1940s and she was the head border in her graduating year in 1947. She loved Crofton House so much that she sent her two daughters, Jane (Puckering) Kraemer ’84 and Anne (Puckering) Green ’79, to the school to follow in her footsteps. She had many friends from her Crofton days.
