Dear Parents and Carers,
It was wonderful to welcome staff, students and community members back to school on Monday. Classrooms had a beautiful, calm energy as I walked around the school and this is a credit to how students embrace learning at Subiaco, the work by parents to prepare them for the day and staff; who focus on connection, collaboration and predictable routines.
I hope the holiday break was restful and enabled some quality family time ahead of the longer term. Although it is an 11-week term, we do have two public holidays this term and a Student Development Day on Friday 19 May just before the WA Day public holiday which will give families a four-day long weekend around the mid-way point of the term.
In this longer term and the change of season which can bring illness, I encourage families to pace extra-curricular activities to ensure students have enough rest and play outside of school to come to school each day ready to learn. We also ask families to
keep their child home if they are unwell to limit the spread of illness to staff and students.

ANZAC Service
This morning the school held its annual ANZAC Service with all students from Pre-primary to Year 6, staff, special guests Mr Richard Diggins, Justice of the Peace, Order of Australia Medal, member of the Subiaco RSL Sub Branch; Fiona Plant representing Jonathan Huston, MLA; City of Subiaco Mayor, David McMullen, Director of Development Services, Mr Alex Petrovski, School Board Chair, Mrs Christina Dismuke School Board Representative, Mrs Katherine Vines, P&C President and Mrs Johanna Van Gorkum-Derks.
Led impeccably by Year 6 students Porjai, Aria and Benit was a moving and special service which provided space to reflect on the importance of honouring the courage, sacrifice and service of those who have served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
ANZAC Day began by commemorating the soldiers of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who landed at Gallipoli during World War I, and has since become a time to reflect on the values of bravery, mateship and resilience. For our students, ANZAC Day offers an opportunity to learn about an important part of Australia’s history, to show respect, and to recognise the many ways people contribute to peace and service across
the world.
Our choirs sounded amazing, giving everyone goosebumps I am certain.
It was one of those days that heightened my sense of pride in being the Principal of this outstanding school community.
Thank you so much to the community for attending. I also thank the many staff behind the scenes who spent hours supporting students to rehearse as speakers, preparing the wreaths for the service and with the help of the community bringing in flowers, which were just incredible.

2026 School Board
I am pleased to welcome our 2026 School Board members: Board Chair Christina Dismuke, parent representatives Katherine Vines, Joel Benichou and Fawzia Wilson, community member Simone Janney, and staff representatives Gemma Hayley and Cassie Zaddow.
The Board provides strategic oversight and governance, monitors progress against our Business Plan priorities and supports a number of key decisions involving annual contributions and charges to parents and dress code.
I thank both returning and new members for their time and commitment. Their contribution strengthens the direction and future planning of Subiaco. Thank you to outgoing Board Chair, Hannah McKelvie and staff representative Alan Ramsey, who both spent the past 3 years on the Board, and to Gabrielle Kotai-Qamar who spent 9 months with us. Thank you to each one of you for your significant and valued contributions.
Very soon you will be able to find all School Board members on the school website. Please say hello when you see a Board member in the community or at school.
Warm Regards
Heather McNeil
