From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we rapidly approach the end of Term 2, I’d like to share some important updates and highlights from across the school.
Staffing Updates
We farewell Mrs Toni Shane, who has been appointed to a teaching role at St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls beginning Term 3. Her last day with us will be Friday 20 June. Mrs Shane has been an outstanding teacher and valued member of our school community. We wish her every success in this exciting new chapter.
To ensure a smooth transition for her class, we have arranged a team-teaching model from Monday 30 June:
Mrs Lizzy Iacomella: Monday to Wednesday
Miss Jess Johns-Putra: Thursday and Friday
Both educators bring experience and enthusiasm, ensuring continuity and care for our students. As Mrs Shane finishes at the end of Week 8, Miss Johns-Putra will teach the class full-time in Week 9. The new shared teaching arrangement will then begin in Week 10.
We also congratulate Mrs Cat Deacon, who has accepted an exciting position with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) for Semester 2. Beginning Monday, 21 July 2025, she will be working with the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) curriculum team, contributing her expertise at a state level. This is a fantastic opportunity for Cat to share her knowledge and engage in curriculum development. We look forward to welcoming her back in 2026, enriched with new insights and professional growth. In her absence, Mrs Nicolene Hall, who currently teaches Year 5 U1 each Friday, will step into the full-time teaching role from Term 3 to ensure continuity and support for the students.
Classroom Relocation – Year 5 U1
Following recent heavy rain, Year 5 U1 was temporarily moved to the library due to water ingress. I commend the students and teachers for their resilience and flexibility.
The great news is that repairs can now proceed without heritage restrictions. Planned upgrades include a new ceiling, lighting, air conditioning, carpet, ceiling fans, and an upgraded interactive whiteboard. All student belongings and artwork were safely preserved.
School Development Day – Staff Wellbeing Focus
Our recent School Development Day centred on staff wellbeing and engagement, a key priority of our Strategic Plan. We explored self-care, managing workload, and supporting one another to prevent burnout. A team-building activity with Two Feet and a Heartbeat allowed us to reconnect in a fun and meaningful way, reinforcing our commitment to a healthy and supportive staff culture—benefitting both students and the wider community.
Men’s Health Week
A big thank you to Mrs Emma-Louise Harrison and the Wellbeing Committee for organising a range of activities during Men’s Health Week. It served as a timely reminder of the importance of health awareness, self-care, and looking out for one another.
Reporting to Parents
Semester 1 reports will be available to families via Compass at 4.00pm on Tuesday 1 July 2025. These reports reflect your child’s progress so far this year. Teachers make a professional judgement based on what has been taught and assessed to date, using a range of tasks and activities to determine achievement against the WA curriculum standards.
Grades show how your child is performing at this point in time. Students showing a high level of understanding and achievement will receive an ‘A’ grade.
Reports are just one part of how we share student learning. Teachers also give regular feedback in class to guide and support each student.
Please take this opportunity to celebrate your child’s learning – not only academic results, but also their effort, attitude, independence, and kindness.
Warm regards,
Heather McNeil

Children's Online Privacy Code and Anti-Bullying Rapid Review
The Federal Government is currently requesting feedback on the following issues:
1. Children’s Online Privacy Code
Last year, Parliament passed a Bill that required the creation of a ‘Children’s Online Privacy Code’- a special set of rules made to help protect children’s privacy when using the internet.
The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner is currently drafting this code, and has requested ideas from children, parents and guardians about what should be included in the Code and what concerns you have about online services that children use.
www.oaic.gov.au/engage-with-us/consultations/childrens-online-privacy-code-consultation-for-children-and-parents
Submissions due: 30 June 2025
2. Anti-bullying Rapid Review
The Federal Government is reviewing how bullying is addressed in our schools, with the aim of developing a national approach to improve support for students, families, and staff.
The Anti-Bullying Rapid Review is now seeking online submissions from students and young people, parents, carers, and teachers across the country.

Food Drive 2025
|
 |
| |
The annual Social Justice Group (SJG) led Food Drive will be run in Week 9 this term (Monday 23rd- Friday 27th June)! Trestle tables will be set up in both the Lower and Upper Hall for collections throughout the week.
In addition, on Friday 27 June, there will be a “Comfy and Cosy” themed Casual Dress Day, where students must bring in a Food Drive item to participate.
Western Australians are going without every day, and Foodbank WA is working hard to change that. In the last financial year, they provided almost 9.2 million meals to Western Australians through their charity partners and schools.
Foodbank relies on donations of all sizes to support people in need. We welcome all non-perishable pantry items, personal hygiene and household items. Donated items must be unopened, in their original packaging with full ingredient and allergen listing, and within their best before date.
Some of the most in demand items include:
Bottled water
Good quality tinned food and meals (with ring pulls)
Noodles, pasta, and rice
Long life milk,
muesli bars, and snacks
Deodorant, soap and body wash
Shampoo, conditioner and sanitary items
Baby food and formula
Pet food
If you would like more information about Foodbank WA, please head to: What we do - How Foodbank works. Thank you for helping to make a difference in our community!

Running Club & Cross Country – Building Endurance, Spirit, and School Pride
This year’s Faction Cross Country was a true whole-school celebration of stamina, determination, and team spirit. Students from every year level laced up their runners and took part in a dynamic day of long-distance racing across our school grounds.
In the lead-up to the big event, our Before School Running Club saw more than 80 students attending each session, creating a strong foundation of fitness and camaraderie.
On the day itself, the rain tried to stop us—but it didn’t. Spirits stayed high, and every runner gave it their all. A special shout-out to the Year 3 girls who powered through their race in the rain, setting an incredible example of resilience and grit for the rest of the school.
After a thrilling series of Year 1-6 races, Julius Faction claimed the championship title with 976 points, followed by Llewellyn with 893 and Klein with 579.
The Cross Country Carnival continues to be a key event on the school calendar, promoting physical wellbeing, resilience, and a healthy dose of friendly faction competition.

State Cross Country Championships – Subiaco Steps Up on the Big Stage
In Term 2, a team of 80 of Subiaco’s best long-distance runners took on the Primary Schools Cross Country Championships, one of the largest events on the school sport calendar, with over 1800 students from across Western Australia competing.
Our athletes rose to the occasion, representing Subiaco Primary with grit, focus, and sportsmanship. Whether it was pushing through the final stretch or cheering on their teammates, each student gave their best and should be incredibly proud of their efforts.
It was a fantastic opportunity to compete at a state level, and our students did both themselves and our school proud.
A special shout out to the students who backed up after their individual event to compete in the newly create Teams Relay event. Huge effort by all these students with the school finishing 5th overall.

Men’s Health Week – 9–15 June 2025
This week, we’re recognising Men’s Health Week, a national initiative aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of boys and men in our community. The 2025 theme is "See a GP", highlighting the importance of regular check-ups and seeking medical advice early—not just when something goes wrong.
At school, we’re using this opportunity to encourage healthy habits and open conversations about looking after both our physical and mental health. We invite families to take part by having a chat at home about the importance of regular health checks, and by supporting the boys and men in your lives to book a visit to the doctor—even just for a routine check-in.
A simple appointment could make a big difference.

Chaplain's Corner
Amazingly we are now more than half way through Term 2. Time has gone so fast.
Throughout this term we have been doing many exciting things.
Students in Pre-primary and Year 5 caught up for a Buddies catch up in Week 5.
They either created a structure out of paper, made a Lego creation, made a monster out of nature materials, or a mobile out of recyclable materials. We had so much fun creating and being with our buddies. Students are all look forward to catching up again in Week 10 of this term. Click HERE to see photos of our experience.
Select students have been taking part in Gardening Club. So far, students have planted carrots, Lavendar, cucumber, and more. Hopefully we get to see the plants flourish and be able to eat the vegetables. We have learnt about worms and their environment, and have been lucky enough to hold them. Click HERE to see photos of our experience.
