This year Unplanned Good teamed up with Second Mothers, another wonderful non-profit on whose Board I serve. We had such a presence at CAFO 2024 last month and were able to serve the attendees of our workshops with information and a bit of pampering.
Our panel consisted of two fabulous birth mothers, Ali and Laura, who came to Nashville to share their experiences and talk about the beauty of open adoption. Also on our panel was the beloved Jamie Finn, author of the book, Foster the Family.
Pictures below, enjoy!
Thank you for your support of our efforts at CAFO. We could not do those trips without your generous donations!

Our Policy Goals. All our legislative work is meant to a) increase awareness about adoption as an option and b) make the journey a bit easier for the woman who chooses adoption for her unplanned pregnancy.
Last year's work in Boise was so fruitful, and the people so receptive, it inspired us to spread the news at the Live Action Lawmakers Summit this past summer. We're grateful for that chance to share Idaho's new laws with 40 other States.
Now we are preparing for the Idaho's 2025 Legislative session. I'm working with our friends in the Capitol to get input on our bill ideas. We'll share more detail on that next month.
EWTN News Nightly with Tracy Sabol!
I had the honor of being a guest on this show to talk with Tracy about the pro-adoption bills we recently got passed. Here's a link. Our segment on the Idaho legislation is about 5 minutes long and starts at about 11.20 minutes into Tracy's show.
Canadian Podcast: Pro Life Guys
In this August 9 episode, host Cameron Côté sits down with Terri Marcroft from Unplanned Good, to talk not only about her ministry, Unplanned Good, but also the meaningful adoption experiences of the child, biological parents, and adopting families. Cam says, "It was a wonderful podcast!"
Here's the link.
After that podcast, Cameron Côté invited me to spend a morning with his 18 summer interns and 12 staffers to conclude their summer together. The themes we covered were understanding the steps in adoption, the challenges in the adoption process for children, birth parents and adopting parents, the different forms of adoption, and the misconceptions surrounding adoption. It was a spirited conversation!
Phrase of the Day: Open Adoption
Open adoption is a form of adoption in which the biological and adoptive families have each other's contact information and varying degrees of contact with each other, by phone, in person and/or through social media.
The Strategy behind our Policy Work
While these States are saying ‘no’ to abortion, we encourage them to say ‘yes’ to adoption! We hope to enact "pro-adoption" legislation nationally. We're so grateful for our success in Idaho, where we got three bills passed to help birth mothers and to build awareness about adoption. Our early supporters, the Lt Gov Scott Bedke and Senator Julie VanOrden, both invited us to come back next session and tackle a second set of legislative priorities. So exciting! Clearly, the time is right for this work! And, with your support, we will keep going!
Imagine if these States made it easier to choose adoption!

OPEN ADOPTION;
It's Not Like the Olden Days!
All of this is about spreading the word about open adoption -- a reasonable option for women facing unplanned pregnancy. The 1970s and 80s were all about closed adoptions. Then we discovered the beauty of open adoption. Learn more about open adoption in this short video.
DID YOU KNOW? - Fewer than 1% of women facing unplanned pregnancy make an adoption plan?
- When they do, it's because an adult in their life encouraged them to consider adoption?
- There are over one million U.S. couples waiting now to adopt?

Why are we doing this?
Young women are 50% more likely to make an adoption plan when the trusted adult in their life suggests it to them. Otherwise, most girls don't give it a minute's thought, and choose between abortion or single parenting. That's why we need to get this on the radar of more people.
Please forward this newsletter to someone you know who has been touched by adoption. Ask them to sign up for our monthly news here and/or contribute their story to our web site.
Thank you so much for your continued encouragement & support of UPG.

About Unplanned GoodWe promote adoption as a positive option for those facing unplanned pregnancies. It can be so very good (and beautiful!) for all involved.
