Tuesday to Friday, 26–29 October Dear Student, Spooky season is here and despite the weather, there is a great buzz around campus.
We hope you're all enjoying the festive period and as you celebrate, staying safe and looking out for one another. While the past few weeks haven't been all smooth sailing, it's great to see so many of you getting stuck into university life and trying out new extracurricular activities.
We have more events and opportunities coming up to help you through the cold days of Autumn. Read on to find out more. On the technical front, we continue to work to restore all IT systems to their full capacities. Remember that you can now access all main university learning and communication platforms (Email, Blackboard, Teams, Collaborate) on campus using Eduroam. There are also temporary Wi-Fi spots available in the Bailey Allen Hall, Library, certain teaching venues, Goldcrest and the Reading Room. Keep an eye on your emails for an update on exams. Important things to note this week: - Certain sections of the Bailey Allen Hall will re-open from Wednesday, 27 Oct with restricted access.
Extra spaces are available on the First floor of Cairnes Business School (55 noisy study spaces), The Library (900 quiet seats) and the Reading Room (82 quiet seats). Further details below.
- There is an important deadline coming up this week! If you're thinking of changing course or withdrawing, make sure to make up your mind before the 31 October to avoid financial implications. Help is at hand in the Student Enquiry Centre. Details below.
- It is important to note that COVID-19 infection rates are increasing, and Government guidelines around mask wearing & covid certificates have not changed as measures have eased. Please remember to wear your masks and keep up with the latest measures here. If you haven't already done so, consider getting a COVID-19 vaccine at the HSE Pop-Up Vaccination Centre on the Main Concourse. Opening times below.
Deadline for applications: 26 NovemberThe Access Centre is delighted to announce the return of NUI Galway’s Laptop Loan Scheme. Under this scheme, undergraduate and postgraduate students may be eligible to receive a laptop on long-term loan (for the duration of their studies with NUI Galway). POP-UP COVID-19 VACCINATION CENTRE

If you have been on campus over the last week, you have likely been using Eduroam to access Wi-Fi. With Eduroam, you can access the University’s teaching, learning and communication platforms (Email, Blackboard, Teams). If you are experiencing issues, check out the Step-by-step guides and videos for the install process on the ISS website. Access to most of the NUI Galway Library’s e-resources has also been restored. Open on TuesdaysIf you haven't yet received your COVID-19 vaccine, you can do so by dropping into the HSE Pop-Up vaccination clinic on the Main Concourse, open each Tuesday over the next three weeks (26 October, 2 & 9 November), 9.30am – 5pm.
Should you have an appointment for a COVID-19 test, please note that you should not enter other buildings on campus until you have received confirmation of a negative result.

FINANCIAL AID FUND NOW OPEN
What is the Financial Aid Fund?The Financial Aid Fund is a scheme aimed at disadvantaged students who require financial support to enable them to fully benefit from their studies. The following funds are now open for 2021/2022 and available to students: - Hardship / Emergency Fund (EU, including Ireland, and UK):
Applies to all students who experience significant changes in their personal circumstances within the 12 months prior to application.
- Means-Tested Fund: For students on a household income of less than €43,380. Once the budget is exhausted, this fund will be closed for the year.

Early application is strongly advised. Please note payments will be made when the payments system is available. Information on the HEAR Access and International Hardship Emergency Fund will be shared with students as soon as possible. In the event of an emergency, all students are eligible to apply to the Hardship/Emergency Fund. Students can only apply to either the HEAR and Access Fund or the Means-Tested Fund. You cannot apply to both, so please select the one most relevant to you.
Withdrawal Deadline:
31 OctoberIf you think your course might not be a good fit, there are financial implications to withdrawal (dropping out) after 31 October. Internal Course Transfer Deadline: 29 OctoberThe notified closing date for applying for an internal transfer is the end of this week, Friday, 29 October.
Any requests coming in after that date will not be progressed.
