Save The Date for Whiskers In Wonderland™We hope you will join us on Saturday, December 28 at 34 Hamilton Avenue in Oyster Bay from 12-5 p.m. for our annual Whiskers in Wonderland™ open house event. There will be cats of all shapes, sizes, colors and ages for adoption. If you aren't looking to adopt, you can sponsor a cat and receive a personalized ornament with your sponsee's name (or your own cat's name) on it. It's a great way to support the shelter! Back by popular demand, our Ladew Scavenger Hunt will also take place for the kiddies to have some fun. Find all the items listed and receive a fun goody bag. Tours of the shelter will be given to anyone who would like to see our facility. We will be serving cider and cookies. Hope to see you there! Two Chances to see 'American Cats: The Good, The Bad & The Cuddly:"--Cinema Arts Center in Huntington on Sunday, January 19th at 2 p.m.--The New York Bar Association, 42 West 44th Street on Thursday, January 16th at 6 p.m.This thought-provoking exposé (or expawsé) follows comedian Amy Hoggart (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee) as she dives into the controversial world of cat declawing in the United States. On the surface, it appears to be a simple, harmless surgery for the convenience of pet owners, but as Hoggart digs deeper, a disturbing nationwide conspiracy unfolds. Through interviews with veterinarians, activists and pet owners, the documentary unveils a powerful industry lobby that profits from this cruel procedure. AMERICAN CATS challenges the ethical implications of our choices and calls for a nationwide reflection on our treatment of animals. It also has lots of jokes and cute kittens, Stay for the Q&A directly following both showings and meet director, Todd Bieber, Paw Project Founder, Dr. Jennifer Conrad and our own Dr. Susan Whittred. Both showings are free but you must sign up to reserve a seat. For the NYC BAR Association screening (42 West 44th Street), on Thursday, January 16th at 6 p.m., to reserve a FREE ticket, please call 212/382-6663. You Say Goodbye and I Say Hello!Adopted in November This month we said so long to Pikachu, Mango, Benson & Stabler, Peaches, Rusty, Smoothie, Tortellini, Juju, Norman, Ziti, Sulu and Scarlet who were all adopted into loving homes. While we miss every one of our beloved Ladewbies, adoptions make it possible for us to help more kitties. So while we said goodbye to some, we also said hello to others. Meet the Newbies! Reba and her six kittens: Claire, Jamie, Rachel, Phoebe, Lucy & Ricky transferred from Town of Hempstead; Juliet and Lady (who were returned because their elderly owners couldn't look after them anymore), Safari (a declawed kitty found outside); Red who had a hindlimb amputation; Steeler (who we'll give a trip to the ophthalmologist and some dental surgery before goes to a new home); Marmalade who has a broken leg with an external fixation device that needs constant care with X-rays until removal; and finally Cannoli and Cupcake who were part of a trap, neuter, return program (TNR) but were too sweet to put back outside. Below is the link to our adoption application if you would like to add a Ladewbie to YOUR family! Sponsor MarmaladeAdorable Marmalade was found with a broken leg. He was brought to Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. He had surgery at Atlantic Coast Specialists where an external fixator (an apparatus that is external to the leg) was applied in an attempt to save the leg. Marmalade needed a place where the apparatus could be managed, serial X-rays taken along with weekly bandage changes and was transferred to us. He's a super sweet guy and will be a great addition to any home as soon as he is healed. You can help him by sponsoring him to help pay for his X-rays and the surgery to remove the external fixation. Any donation helps! Spoiler Alert: He has an adoption pending! |
