Kara Gregory, Pre Award Research Grants Analyst, is a southern California native who graduated from UC Irvine with a BA in English and a Master of Arts in Teaching. Before moving into the grant writing and funding world, Kara worked in public schools and was a Montessori educator for nearly a decade. Looking to make an impact in her community outside of the classroom, she worked as a freelance grant writer and coordinator for local nonprofits. Kara is excited to support the Office of Research and Graduate Education at Chapman through her work with the Sponsored Projects team. Outside of work, you’ll find Kara reading, hiking, traveling with her family, and perpetually catching up on her shows. ![]() ![]() Matt Sheeley joins Chapman University after spending six years as a Post Award Grant and Contract Analyst at the University of Arizona. Prior to that, Matt worked in the Accounting and Revenue Management world before finding his career in Research Administration in Tucson, Arizona. During those six years, Matt managed account setup, expenditure review, financial reporting, invoicing and financial compliance for a large portfolio of projects. With a passion for training and development, Matt helped create and roll out training initiatives both internally for Sponsored Projects and also campus-wide education for Research Administration functions. Matt joins Chapman, hungry to do the same and do whatever he can to help the University’s research flourish. ![]() Nature Masterclass Reminder To enhance your expertise in research and scholarship. New National Science Foundation Product Types Effective July 1, 2024, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) enabled six new product types in the NSF Public Access Repository (NSF-PAR): audiovisual, data paper, educational aid and curriculum, posted content, software, and sound. Visit the Research.gov About Public Access page for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and updated how-to guides that include the six new product types. National Science Foundation Discover Research K-12 Solicitation NSF’s DRK-12 proposal submission deadline is November 13, 2024. The solicitation introduced the partnership development project type, and the first round of funding will be awarded this year. Proposals for this project type should articulate how and why they seek to intentionally build new or expand existing collaborations as well as include a clear statement of how the activities will result in or contribute to DRK-12 research and development program goals. Presenting the Intro to R Programming LibGuide Our STEM Librarian, Dr. Elaine Yeung, has created the “Intro to R Programming LibGuide,” which includes resources on installing and using R, helpful instruction guides, and upcoming workshops to help the Chapman community improve their programming skills.
